Believe it or not I can do a snortwheeze with my buck growl. It works, I was amazed.

I have only ever used it during the chase phase of the rut when bucks are cruising heavily and are on no set pattern. Obviously now is not the time to be using this call in the midwest, but if you are in a southern state such as La. where the rut is just cranking up it could be a very useful call. BTW I'm sure you know it GregH , but no amount of calling is gonna pull a buck away from a hot doe.;) Also you don't need to buy this call it can be done very easily with your natural voice. |

imnot trying to start drama or anything like that. im just saying since i do a lot of spot and stalk and only ground hunt i get busted a lot. and when i get busted they always use a snort/wheeze atleast once

LOL, not the same "call" or maybe I'm wrong. What your hearing is a warning call alerting other deer to a potential danger,that's why they do it before the take off.. The snort wheeze, which I've never heard in 30 years of hunting is a "hey you want to get your butt kicked call."

I know a lot of guys who have been hunting a lot of years and cant find their azz with both hands. I have killed bucks off the snort wheeze and heard it. I don't know how many times, I'm not a numbers guy I like results. Obviously it works and is more successful in good buck to doe ratio areas and only during certain times of the season. Watch the deer and they will tell you when it is time for it. |

I have never heard a short wheeze other than on TV. And I hunt a lot. I have no doubt that they make that sound, though, just not that often. I rarely even hear a deer grunt and when I do they are very close and usually you can barely hear it.
One thing I did hear this year that was different was a doe grunting. The first time was when a fawn came in below my stand and I could hear a deer several yards away and I could see it was a doe. Then I heard a lot of grunting and was sure there was a buck grunting at the doe. The doe came in and I just sat waiting for the buck which never showed up. Two other times I saw that fawn and doe and each time the doe would grunt every few seconds. Sadly for the doe, the last time I saw her, I put an arrow through her and she grunts no more. |

Add my name to Davidmils list. After 42 yrs of bowhunting, I've grunted in a bunch of busks but not a wheeze.

I've seen it work and fail on TV, the times it has worked it is allmost alway's after normal grunting.
So to answer the question even though I'm full of horse crap. It may be effective for a very short peroid of time,in area's with a good buck to doe ratio, is it worth the investment hey who knows it could bring you in the buck of a life time,or it could be a waste of money. The big question is, Is there a scent lok insert for it so the deer don't smell your breath if they come in down wind? |
