Finally, got my mounts back!!

Well after 13 months wait on my white tail and only 5 months on the mule deer, I got them up and hanging. I went Saturday and pickd them both up.

Don't mind the hole in my ceiling, I need to get some new grates.
The wife was really worried about these hanging in her living room, but after we got them up, she surprisingly said they look good in there. Lucky for her, cuz I was just going to tell her to go in the other room then!

Good for you!! When I was married I always got the last word in too, and it was always "Yes dear".

Good looking Mounts! Congratulations. I love the pose you put on your whitetail. I have two done that way also. When I was trying to decide on the pose I didn't think I would like it but it has grown on me.

Good looking bucks!

Man those are some real nice mounts, I have had one mounted and it burnt up in a house fire in 82, the rule in my house is it has to be bigger than the last one to get it mounted, I will probably hunt another 20 years to beat the one I had mounted!

RE: Finally, got my mounts back!!

Taz, you have to have one to be bigger then, you can't actually count the one you don't have anymore!!

But that will be my basic rule, unless I get a very unusual looking deer that needs to be displayed.

Kind of hard to tell from pictures but it looks as if it was worth the wait . Those look to be some fine quality mounts , its hard to find someone who does good work like that , down here in florida its allmost imposable .

We all have different oppinions , if we did'nt the world would be a BORING place

Nice looking mounts.

I especially like the sweeping wall-mount pedestal that the whitetail was done on. That's the first one I've seen outside of the various taxidermy catalogs. Thanks for sharing.

Very nice mounts! That looks like quality work for sure! I finally found a taxidermist a few years ago that does quality work. It's defintiely worth the wait and the price. Curious....what do they cost in your area?

Taz...I'm with IL on this one....you DON'T have one to beat anymore (unfortunately)....I say get the next nice one mounted!

those are some fine animals. i am curently still looking for one in your class. congrats and deffinatly worth the wait. you were probably amazed all over again, what a good feeling!

RE: Finally, got my mounts back!!

This taxidermist is a bit on high side for cost. But I have liked every mount I have seen of his, so the price wasn't a biggie.

The white tail cost 430 and the mulie was 410. The whitetail mold was an extra 20 bucks to have him turned like that.

The pictures don't do the mounts much justice at all. This guy deffinatley pays attention to detail. Everywhere there should be a fold of skin he shows it.

Great looking mounts! I loved getting my bear rug and caribou up in the living room. The wife was hesitant to let me put them there, but she actually thinks they fill in some voids in the room. Good thing for her! hehe.

That whitetail mount really takes the focus off that hole in the ceiling.

Excellent mounts man. Congrats on some fine looking deer. JerseyJoe my wife has finally thrown in the towel on the "hunting fishing" room. It used to be 50/50 office and sport room. I finally ran her out!!! And I'd love to hunt with Il Bow Man and put another one like those on the wall.

They look great. I don't get to start hunting deer untill september. I have the biggest itch to go out into the woods, and I still have to wait 7 more months. It will be my first time ever hunting. The only problem I run into is, my wife despises hunting, and said there is no way I'll get a deer mounted to hang in our house. It's hard to find a big deer like that in Jersey, but I'll tell you what...I get one as big as your whitetail....it will be hung!!

Beautiful mounts!! price should never be a consideration when getting a really nice animal mounted!

A friend got a really good buck last year, actually the best deer anyone I know has taken. He was shopping around and I told him not to go to a certain taxidermist, after telling him the problems I had with mine. Needless to say he was being his usual cheap self and decided to save $50,, the ears are splitting, the eyes are bugged out and hes upset with the quality,, I told him so!!

RE: Finally, got my mounts back!!

Lady, the taxidermist is Emkens's Taxidermy, Inc. He is way over in Yates City. That is a 2 hour haul for me, so it would be even longer for you!! He is a tad bit west of peoria. Hopefully I will get a new cover for my air return this weekend and that will make the mounts look even better.

Hey jersey, I don't know what they call that pose, but I like them very much too.

Nice whitetail...I really like the mass that guy has throughout, from base to tip on the mainbeams. What did he score? How old do you think he was? Did you get a field dressed weight on him?

jerseyjoe - I would be willing to bet the WT is on a McKenzie 8800 series Semi-upright Wall Pedestal Form sculpted by Dennis Behn.

From the chin position relative to the back, it has to be semi-upright.

Nice mounts IBM...:). Did you have to wait 13
months for your whitetail or did you just wait until
your mule buck was done too? Seems like a long time
to take, but your taxidermist did do a great job.

RE: Finally, got my mounts back!!

Wolfen, we rough scored him in the low 140's with a net around 130. We weighed him after we field dressed him right around 175-180. His age we aren't exactly sure on. Some deer in our area have made it that big in 3 1/2 years, but usually don't have the mass as him. So we really think he was 4 1/2. Not totally sure though.

Twobeards, you heard me right.....13 months to get the white tail back. I was a bit disappointed in the time it took, but I atleast knew they would be good. I actually had a different muley over there that I took at the same time. But when I shot this one in 2002, I called him to see if I could swap out the antlers beings he didn't have them done yet. What disappointed me the most in time was the fact that he said they would be done by the end of summer, then it was October and then finally got them in January. If he would have told me 13 months when I had taken it over, that would be a different story. I could have lived with that.
