RE: Getting in to the hunting industry?????
Question is.....do you need to make any money at it? I think it wouldn't be hard AT ALL to get into the industry. Getting in there and making a LIVING, now.......that may be a conundrum.;)

RE: Getting in to the hunting industry?????
1) Video every hunt.
2) Kill big bucks. Lots of them. 3) Repeat steps 1 & 2.:D |
RE: Getting in to the hunting industry?????
well to make it full time money would help but just to be involved in the hunting world would be a dream even without cash problem with videoing the hunts i don't have a camerafor it but if i did get one what do you do with your tapes how do you get in touch with these guys????

RE: Getting in to the hunting industry?????
Look at it this way.....
A VAST majority of the shows you see on TV......are people who have businesses that pay the bills. For example: Drury Bros. (MAD Calls/Biologic); Primos (Primos calls); Mossy Oak (Mossy Oak Camo and Biologic); Shockey (ammunition); Fred Eichler (Wife owns Muzzy); etc...; etc...; etc... They have avenues that fund their hunting/production escpades. If left to stand on their own merits.....I don't know how a lot of these shows could make it. |

Jim Shockey got into the business because he was a great hunter....and an outfitter. Along with Fred Eichler....but it also helps having the wife he does. |

RE: Getting in to the hunting industry?????
Well man... I've been offered to go in numerous dvd's[8D]But I turned them down for now due to the fact I personally hate the pain of video-taping ... My site is sponsored by allot of companies that allow me to get all the gear I need free... I write journals of hunts and how-to stuff so.... Maybe try a website... Hey I remembered the last guy was Deer ridge if you have any hunting videos ask Deer Ridge Innovations they are always looking for videos... They'll give you a free copy of a dvd some money and some prizes. Atleast thats what they offered me. And no I have to work too in fact I also plumb. I guess it's we all want to get out of plumbing LMAO.

RE: Getting in to the hunting industry?????
ORIGINAL: DropTine249 And keep in mind, even with all of those "sponsors" Mark Drury's Iowafarm is for sale !!! Also, he has been, lets say this nicely, removed? from some of the clubs that he was a member of, for none payment. So, even these guys, whom own succesful businesses and have sponsors with heavy names, can bite off more than they can chew. If you want to get in teh industry because yo want to hunt more, Id say get a job OUTSIDE the industry that allows you to take time. Most of the hunting industry is at its busiest DURING THE SEASON. I just know what to look for now;) |
RE: Getting in to the hunting industry?????
Formula for you...
Shoot big bucks + get them on tape = success Look good on tape = success Look good on tape = wear treebark Shoot big bucks = tree bark Therefore wear treebark = your in! right?[&:] |
RE: Getting in to the hunting industry?????
2 important tips... First, make sure you are getting involved for the right reasons. Second, get involved with the right people.
|
RE: Getting in to the hunting industry?????
You need to become familiar with the industry. Study successful people, take them to lunch. You need to know people. Start there, and let me know how that goes....
Do less pondering, and more research and talking to people. Good luck. |

RE: Getting in to the hunting industry?????
Read Drops last sentence. Similar situation: I love to ski. For 10+ straight years I skied at least 58 days a year and my best year was 96 days. While this was going on some of my buddies thought it would be a good idea to move to our mountain and live and work there. They figured they could ski more if they lived there.WRONG! While I was getting freshies or ripping sweet zipper lines, they were either sleeping from working trhe bar late or had to be at work by 10am to open up. Get a job with flexibility and you'll be all set. Once it turns into work, its work.

RE: Getting in to the hunting industry?????
IMO never turn something you have a passion for and love to do into a job, it then becomes something you will not enjoy at all. I used to love golf so i decided hey ill get a job at a golf course. Ill tell ya one thing, the last place i wanted to be was a golf course when i wasnt working. I could never turn hunting into anything work related, nor would i try.

RE: Getting in to the hunting industry?????
LOL well cutting the grass..and being a club pro are not quite the same.
You wouldn't love hunting either if your job was cleaning up after the gut job...it's all relative. |
RE: Getting in to the hunting industry?????
Thats right.... I like being able able to contact Camerlon Hanes and imprtant people I think you'll be happy getting a hunting job. start small work your way up.
