My Guardian is maxxed out at 71#, and I can draw it straight back in any position. I practice shooting a lot and stay in good shape so poundage is not a problem, even in cold weather with bulky clothes on.
Might be cosidered overkill, but I want an exit hole no matter where I hit my deer. And I usually get one too, shooting 2" mechanicals with heavy FMJ arrows.

In my younger days, I used to shoot upwards of 100 pounds. One of my favorite longbows was 120. It'd make a 700 grain whistle.
The bow I shot tournaments with, field archery and 2D (which became 3D) was 80 pounds. But now that what hair I've got left is going gray, my shoulders are letting me know how stupid I was. If I had it all to do over again, I'd have never touched a bow that drew over 65 lbs.
I'd recommend you young guys stick with nothing more than 70, preferably less, and get yourself a T-shirt that says "My other bow is a hundred pounder" so you can thump your chest and strut.
Your shoulders will thank you for it when you get to be an old fart.

It really depends. I like to hunt with 70, but this year am hunting with 67.........once I was done tiller tuning the bow this is where it happened to be so I left it there. For 3D, I like 63-65ish lbs. For indoor/field/FITA I like 55ish lbs.

I'm presently shooting at 55#. I've only had my bow about 3 weeks and I hope to build up some strength and get it up a few pounds. It's all dependent upon my right shoulder and how much it will withstand. The first 3D shoot in January will tell me alot about where I am and where I might be able to go!
