New Law Needed
Monday morning I met with the people who were shotgun hunting the property to the east of mine. I informed them that I had relatives who would be sitting on the property line between mine and the one they were hunting. The land owner then told them not to be shooting west of the road that splits the property in half. That road is a good 500 yards from my property line. Well they set up and started pushing the property and they put some blockers along the south property line on the west side of the road they weren't supposed to be shooting across. When the deer broke out, one of these inbred ignorant SOB's started blasting away at the deer. When his shotgun was empty, my son came out of his stand, walked over to the sorry buttwipe laid down his shotgun and cold cocked him. One of this braindead's slugs missed my son's head by just a couple of feet. I had been sitting down by the pond when the shooting started and walked up when it ended just in time to see my boy drop this guy. I ran over and made sure the boy didn't hurt this guy any more. When he got up he said he was going to file charges. I reminded him what both the property owner and I had told him. He claimed he didn't hear those instructions. My boy said something to the effect of "if I'm going to get charged, I'm going to make it worth my while!" I held him back and then informed the sorry excuse of a human being that when law enforcement arrived, I was going to file reckless use of a firearm charges against him. I ******ed the guy back to the property owner and told him what had happened. When his whole hunting party arrived back, they had shot 12 deer and only located one. The property owner told them to leave and never return. I went out that afternoon on his land and found three of the deer within an hour. I drug them out and called DNR. They came by and took the deer to feed the homeless. They also told me that they were going to investigate further after I told them the story. Hopefully, there will be some guys getting fined and having their hunting privileges removed.
Anyway, I think we need a new law that requires an intelligence test. Anyone who scores lower than a rock should not be allowed to own a weapon!!!! |

I can tell you the only wayto stop acts like the above isto call the DNR everytime!!! |
RE: New Law Needed

RE: New Law Needed
Honest mistake right? Mercy. That is absolutely ridiculous.
|
RE: New Law Needed
I forgot to say that I normally try to resolve things in a non-violent manner but, since the guy who shot in my son's direction was well over 300 lbs, I was really proud of my boy dropping him all the way down with one punch! Children always catch you off guard and make you proud!!!
|
RE: New Law Needed
I'm sure the massive amounts of adrenaline running through your son at the time helped make that punch sting a little worse.....tell him congrats for dropping him as well.
I am a peace-maker myself....but sometimes....well....you know! ;) |
RE: New Law Needed
All I can say is, Wow. I hope your son laied it to him good.
By the way, sorry you had to deal with crap like that. |
RE: New Law Needed
Wow. Tough deal, but it could have been worse. At least you and the boy are okay...

Some people just don't get it!!

I am so happy your son is OKAY!
Mr. Java and Ido not like deer drives; will never be part of one. But, I have to say that is the only reason I saw deer this past weekend. But, the property that they drove was a distance away that I had no chance of getting hit in the head with pellets. |

Thank God that guy didn't kill anyone. Same that people have to act like that sometimes. Glad your son is ok, hope his knuckles don't hurt to bad:D

RE: New Law Needed
On one hand, I am applauding your son for dropping that guy, with the caveat that it was youthful rash behavior, and you for keeping things from escalating. On the other hand, I am reminded of a long drawn out recent post that we should support all of our other hunting brothers and sisters. This guy was not poaching, he is simply a hunter, a careless hunter, but a hunter nonetheless. So, I ask all of you who said support your fellow hunters (some of which have already posted negatively about the guy on this thread)where that support is now? That support disappears when folks start doing stupid things, which seem to be more prevelant in gun hunting.
In all honesty, I am happy with the way you and your son handled it and happier that nobody was really hurt (except fatty with the sore jaw). Good job on recovering some of the deer and feeding the hungry too. |
RE: New Law Needed
Boy still had a glove one when he dropped him. I asked him later how his hand was and he said fine. I really don't think it hurt him at all. Now I have to say my baby is 6' tall and weighs in at 240 himself. But normally he has a real slow burning fuse and most things slide right off his shoulders.
I agree a drive can be done safely but I only had people there because the landowner told me that there would be a crapload of deer break our way and if I didn't have people posted, they would probably figure we weren't home and then come over and push my land afterwards. The guy who shot in my son's direction was told personally by me that we had people all along that fenceline and not to shoot that direction. Landowner just told me 5 minutes ago, his land will be posted by next year and no one but his family and mine can hunt there in the future. I got a bad case of the "what if's" Monday night and I was really shook. All I can do is try to keep everyone else off my property and hope no one shoots this direction within bullet range. High power season opens January 10th for 12 days. I'll have an ulcer by the time it ends. |
RE: New Law Needed
Try not to get yourself too worked up man. The incident is still rather fresh in your mind. Things will settle down...

RE: New Law Needed
I've been in that same position myself! I had a slug miss me by about 2 feet, it hit directly above my head! I got down and marched over to the gun hunter and chewed his ass. He then preceeded to tell me i was an idiot and i better watch my mouth or he was going to let me have it. To make a long story short my hands did the talking very quickly and easily! I've never had trouble with these neighboring land owners again firing where they knew they shouldn't of been! Some of these gun hunters just don't think when they get a deer in front of them, they get to damn excited and loose all common sence! When i'm pheasant hunting i'm very carefull where i'm shooting and my surroundings! There's no excuse for this stuff! None what so ever! These are the gun hunters that make all of the othergun hunters look bad!I'm glad your boy is fine!

What ever happened to clearly identifying your target and making sure that things are clear before pulling the trigger? I'm not the brightest bulb in the chandelier but i can usually do that. But then again I grew up rabbit hunting with beagles and with several other hunters. So, you have to learn very quickly to pick your shots carefully.

I don't want to hijack this thread, so if there are any other comments about my comment just pm me. To get back on track I'll share a story of a lapse in judgement. A few years ago I was gun hunting at our camp in Somerset County, PA. Opening day of gun season in PAis fairly infamous thanks to the million hunter orange army that hits the woods. Well my dad and I have stands that are within sight of each other if you lean past the trees just the right way. Well, he got lucky and got a buck early in the morning. As I sat, I saw a hunter decend the hill, cross onto our property (Posted) and climb into my dad's stand. I was a little ticked, but not too worked up because I knew my dad was done for the day, so he really wasn't hurting anything. That is, until I picked up my binoculars and looked up the hill to see him looking back at me...through his SCOPE!!! I pointed to him and made a motion to get out of the stand. I then got down out of mine and made my way up there. He was wise and got down and headed off of our property before I got there. I don't know what I would have done, but in the state of mind I was in it would not have been rational.[:@] |
RE: New Law Needed
I guess it all depends on your definition of a hunter. Anyone can buy a bow but that doesn't make them a bowhunter. Same with a gun or any weapon. I don't think anyone would mistake the guy with a sore jaw for a hunter ;).
|
RE: New Law Needed
Wow!! I don't know if I could have held my temper if someone sent one wizzing by my head like that.
Some folks just don't belong in the woods with guns in their hands.[:@]Whatever happend to "know your target and what's beyond it".[:'(] Glad nobody was hurt. |
RE: New Law Needed
A few years ago, after about an hour drive and another hour to get to my stand site and set-up, a group of bird hunters came by my stand and I heard one of them tell the others "there is a bowhunter". They all looked in my direction, and walked in theother direction. Then all of a sudden shots started to ring out and the trees around me were showered with pellets.
I will never really know if they were intentionally trying to shoot me, but I don't see how it could have been an accident. That is the kind of crap you put up with when you hunt public land. My daughter is now at the age whereshe wants to huntwith me, but its things like this that make me feel taking her to hunt with me on public land is not such a good idea!! |

RE: New Law Needed
Happens every year all over the country.Glad no one was hurt by the gunfire.I heard on the radio this morning of a Md hunter being shot and killed while walking into the woods with his son. Don't know the details so if someone does please relay them. I just don't know how someone can mistake a human for a deer. A human stands vertical and a deer horizontal[&:]. Go figure[:@].
