It has been estimated by the Va Game and Island Fisheries that Va now has something like 1.3 milliom whitetails in the state. What does you state have? We can kill 3 bucks a year and as many does as we buy stamps for.

There's the kicker VA, PA is suppose to have 1.5 million deer. We get ONE buck tag period because our license sales tally around 1 million too. As far as the deer estimate, I say eeeerrrnt, wrong answer PGC.

I think ours is in line with VA (pops).

Missouri DOC estimates the herd at around 1 million. We, too, can kill 3 bucks and as many does as we buy tags for. Some restrictions apply to that though, such as county.

What amazes me is this.....Missouri hunters kill around 275,000 deer each year, +/- some of course...But the herd has remained pretty constant at 1 million head....That's just amazing to me.....Can you imagine how many deer there would be if we couldn't hunt them??? Well, for a few years anyway, until they all died off..

Man, we have no limits on size of bucks, all they have to have is an inch above the hair line. We can take 2 per day, but still only three bucks all year. I mean, 3 bucks is a lot compared to PA and others. I don't know why states that have lots of deer only allow one buck. Anyone know why?

VA wants the deer killed. We do have too many in much of the state. Some areas have lower pops. I wish they would drop it back to 1 buck with a bow, and one with a gun. The multiple doe tags are fine...we need the does shot. Problem I think is we don't have as many hunters as we used to....and too many people don't want to shoot a doe.

WV is worse. You can kill up to 5 bucks legally...2 with bow, 2 with gun, 1 with M/L late season. Ridiculous. They have some of the worst game laws in the country, then top that off with so many people that completely disregard all game laws....no wonder the buck to doe pop is so out of whack, and most of the bucks you do see are dinks. I know guys that have hunted their entire lives in WV, and have taken piles of bucks (each year)....and never EVER checked even one deer in. The game wardens say they care, yet when you call about something....they give a lame excuse and tell you you are on your own (the majority of the time).

We have a pretty healthy herd, though we have lots of does. I saw 27 does on one stand last gun season in one afternoon! They were not the same deer, they were being pushed out of a thicket and across the field. We kill something like 250,000-275,000 a year. Nc, kills that many and they have 1/2 the deer Va does. I think they may be on to something!!

Check your stats, VA......We have a LOT more than "1/2" the deer VA does (not that that is a good thing)

In 2005 it was estimated at "roughly" (1.1M) the same numbers you give for VA.
