AF Hunter- My buddy has about 600 acres in Illinois. He thought about buying some land in Illinois but since he lives in NC, he was told that he would still have to try and obtain tags every year via the lottery system that everyone else does. He basically would get no special privileges eventhough he would be a land owner because he lives out of state. Is that correct for Iowa?

IMO unless you are gonna be able to spend alot of time there, I wouldn't get something real far away. I think you'd be better off getting something close that you could utilize alot. If its huge bucks you are after...you may have to go farther, but then it becomes a toss up... for far less $ you could certainly lease or go on a guided or semi guided hunt each year. Of course I don't know your situation, you may be able to make the most out of a property far away. Good luck!
