RE: Right handers shooting lefty
I'm right handed but left eye dominant. Ever since I was a kid I've shot everything left handed, bows, long guns, pool. The only thing I shoot right handed is a handgun. Bionerd76 mentioned earlier that he felthe wassteadier holding the bow with his right hand. I totally agree with that statement.
My advice would be not toworry about it and get yourself a left handed bow. There's plenty of good left handed bows and accessories out there. Good luck! |
RE: Right handers shooting lefty
I'm curious how many peopledidthe eye test andsaid "WHAT!", I know I did and it makes buying a bow all that more confusing! I have a friend that has a bow he doesn't really use anymore and I asked him about it and he said "I'm a lefty" and that kind of shot that in the rear but as luck would have it now he's going to let me "play" with it to see what happens and then I'll at least know if shooting lefty is possible. Some of you may laugh unless you've been there, but I find it difficult to even use toilet paper (if you know what I mean:)) left handed!
Learning all the ins and outs of this new fangled archery is crazy! draw length, brace height, one cam or two, what kind of sight, what kind of release, how much let off, parelell limbs, ATA, fps, and the list goes on, I can hardly wait to pick out arrows and broadheads...NOT! I'm 47 years old and the last time I picked up a bow I had a three fingered glove thing and an arm gaurd! But hey, I'm on the internet;) |
RE: Right handers shooting lefty
I'm right handed and left eye dominate. So I shoot guns and bows left handed.
I think you're a lot better off in the long run to go with your dominate eye. |

RE: Right handers shooting lefty
If you keep your left eye closed it don't matter. I am right and shoot right so I shoot with both eyes open. I also shoot lefty in 3-D shoots sometimes just for fun. Its fun to try it different and be able to shoot both ways. When I shoot lefty though I keep my right eye shut. So you really don't need to change left to right unless you plan on shooting with both eyes open. WCL

Another thing to consider is how much money you want to spend on equipment. Left handed guns and bows are typically significantly higher in price than right handed stuff. WCL

RE: Right handers shooting lefty
My son is right handed shooting left handed, and for him the change made a significant improvement in his shooting. He was always leaning over with his head to look through the peep. He could not close his left alone and leave his right open, but could do it the opposite way. As a kid, he batted left handed also, so I thought it the transition would be relatively easy. It took him some time to adjust, but he enjoys it a lot better.
My wife just started shooting and found she was left eye dominate and right handed. She made the switch does pretty good. She doesn't practice very much and really to do it more if she wants to do any 3D shoots next year with us. |

RE: Right handers shooting lefty
I'm a natural right hander with a dominant right eye. . . shooting a bow is the ONLY thing I do lefty, and it's never been a problem for me, it just feels natural.
