Thank you everyone.

drhntr178..

I've never heard of that before and I'm a deer nerd! But I will look into it. I wouldn't really think it would be true though.. it really wouldn't make much sense for a deer to "shrink" in size as it reaches maturity or 4 years of age. I know bucks certainly don't and every deer is different.

And although I did think about getting her aged I decided not to. I might regret it in the future but at the moment I do not. I am happy to have taken her and really am humbled. I even felt kind of bad after seeing her go down. Her family group lost a mother of more than half a decade! That's a long time in the deer woods.

I bet a few older males miss her too..

That is a nice doe. At our outfitter in E central IL, it is very common to harvest does that size. We have already had some taken at 190+ lbs. It is amazing how big they can get compared to other parts of the country. Not uncommon either to have does 7+ years old. Congrats on a nice harvest!!

The first REALLY mature doe I take....she's going on the wall. I am really looking forward to that day.

Congrats again, Duke!

That's a big doe! It's a good thing she's headed to your freezer, cause' she was probably having a hard time making thelocal Richard Simmons workout night in your neighborhood.

I agree with your logic too. But it could be that they reach that weight at 4 on average and then maintain it. Who knows..
