Nanny whackers: A doe to be truly proud of.

On Saturday November, 24th I was able to harvest this unbelievable doe. She would weigh upwards of 170+ pounds and age above 6+ years. In fact I would expect her to push 8 or 9 years of age.

The first picture she is beside another doe that was taken the same day. The doe on the left is her (notice the grey coat) the one on the right is a good sized doe that would probably push 125-135 pounds and age about 3 years. She absolutely dwarfs the doe on the right.

She is the oldest deer I have ever taken and humbles me to have taken her. She is witout a doubt a true whitetail trophy (although I hate to use that word.)

are you POSITIVE that isn't your buck you killed a week or two ago after the antlers were cut off?

that is the biggest doe i have ever seen, in person or even in a picture. congrats!

She's absolutely a magnificient animal... since you're abstaining from the word "trophy"... ;)

And sometimes, it's not even age and size alone that determine the ones which are special to us... Matt and I got busted several times by one wily doe which just seemed to have a "sixth sense" when we were halfway through our draw cycles... When I finally drill her, I'll be just as proud.

Congratulations!!

This amazing old doe did indeed have a bigger body than some very decent bucks I've taken over the years.

Her family group consisted of 8 other ladies, she was in the lead and very cautious.

Our own HNIJustin has several trailcams (we believe) of her (previous seasons) and nicknamed her "GigaDoe". Due to her amazing size.

Duke:

I am SO happy to see you post this the way you did. She is a true trophy! My next goal in bowhunting is to take a "trophy" doe......and I feel the same way you do about your accomplishment.

I'd be ABSOLUTELY proud of her....as I know you are.

Congrats again, buddy!:)

Congrats on a giant doe! Definitely a trophy!

I am curious if you are going to her aged. I read somewhere (cant remember off hand) that doesreach theirat peak weight at 4 years. Anyone else heard this?

dm, man...congratulations and your right, she's one hell of a nanny. I'd bet she'd take a buck form to mount her. I bet you thought a horse was coming in. Way to go.

Thank you everyone.

drhntr178..

I've never heard of that before and I'm a deer nerd! But I will look into it. I wouldn't really think it would be true though.. it really wouldn't make much sense for a deer to "shrink" in size as it reaches maturity or 4 years of age. I know bucks certainly don't and every deer is different.

And although I did think about getting her aged I decided not to. I might regret it in the future but at the moment I do not. I am happy to have taken her and really am humbled. I even felt kind of bad after seeing her go down. Her family group lost a mother of more than half a decade! That's a long time in the deer woods.

I bet a few older males miss her too..

That is a nice doe. At our outfitter in E central IL, it is very common to harvest does that size. We have already had some taken at 190+ lbs. It is amazing how big they can get compared to other parts of the country. Not uncommon either to have does 7+ years old. Congrats on a nice harvest!!

The first REALLY mature doe I take....she's going on the wall. I am really looking forward to that day.

Congrats again, Duke!

That's a big doe! It's a good thing she's headed to your freezer, cause' she was probably having a hard time making thelocal Richard Simmons workout night in your neighborhood.

I agree with your logic too. But it could be that they reach that weight at 4 on average and then maintain it. Who knows..

To the Good Dr Andy............. Season ain't over yet.;)

Everyone else.. thanks very much. She is one of my favorite deer I have ever taken. Her picture will hang proudly with my buck harvests. And the arrow will be retired. (I'm a dork like that).

Once again, well done my friend. That stand you borrowed us finally paid off after all. :D

The photos don't even do this deer justice. She was HUGE. Definitely one of the more difficult drags we've ever had, that's for sure.

great hunt

just wanted to tell everyone about my last hunt. it was saturday evening. i was hunting over some open crp fields in a park. i had been watching deer movement all evening when something had caught my attention off in the distance. it was something white walking down the road. i thought to myself no way. i got out my binos and sure enough, it was an albino doe. i couldnt believe it. i never thought i would see one while in the stand. it was amazing i sat their and watched for about 15 min until someone spoked them into the woods by trying to get to close. i was just amazed by how white she was. you would think that their coat would be dingy. has anyone else been able to see one or better than that a buck.

Bro, that is just awesome. I know everyone here gets a little crazy when a bigbuck is coming down the pipe, but I'll tell you what, I would've had a case of doe fever seeing her for the 1st time.

they have to weigh more than 135

dukemichaels 11-26-2007 06:53 PM

RE: Nanny whackers: A doe to be truly proud of.

Yeah childers I agree..

If anything I am guilty of under estimating both their weights. I just didn't have the time to weigh both of them. Wanted to get back in the stand for the evening. It's probably a decision I will regret in the future.. freakin' hindsight..[:@]

Thanks to everyone for the kind gestures towards this doe. I was not sure a post on a doe would get too much response. I am glad I posted it. Thanks everyone.
