I've had my mind changed here a bunch of times by people explaining something to me that was plausible. How fat are your arrows (you guys who say you can see them impact)? Are you shooting thin carbons?

RE: Do you all see your arrow hit and how??

I focus on the spot I want to hit. All I see is a hole open up on the deer. On a target if the arrow doesn't hit close to the spot were I'm aiming I will not know where the arrow hit. I do see the arrow coming in to view as it's going to hit the spot. Your eyes can only focus on one thing your pin are your target. One is going to be out of focus. Some focus on the pins and some the spot. Shoot the way that work best for you.

I am shooting FMJ(about as thin as they come) with a light colored wrap and 2 white blazers and one zebra black and white blazer.

So you said nothing to change the way I feel, Greg.

Duh...... Can anybody?;)
Exactly.

IKNOW ICAN SEE MY ARROWS HIT WHAT I AM AIMING AT. I shot my buck in very low light this year andI still said the shot looked a little back. It was by a couple of inches of where I really wanted it to hit.. But the real reason it looked that way is he wascoming down the hillangled to me more than I thought.
Had pretty much the identical situation this year.........and I shoot camo Blazers with a white cock vane......as soon as the arrow hit I KNEW it was a couple inches back of where I wanted to be. I can't imagine not being able to see my arrow hitting. When I found him it was exactly as I saw from my stand. NOT seeing where and how your arrow strikes is a BIG part of the puzzle I would not want to be without. JMO.

RE: Do you all see your arrow hit and how??

Hey guys I'm trying, here.....to find out if maybe I AM doing something wrong. I see just fine. I also use 6" reflective white wraps and I shoot 3 white blazers. Think about it......if your arrow's flying true.....wouldn't the only thing you see be the nock and "possibly" the fletchings spinning? The wrap wouldn't be seen if your arrow is flying true.

I have NO PROBLEMS knowing where my arrow impacts. I can always tell you where the arrow made impact....but I can't ever remember seeing my fletchings make contact with a deer's hide. Just never actually seen the fletching/fur impact contact.

I shoot 3D tournaments and I can see my arrow in flight on shots of over 25 yds......but to see the POI when it hits a 3D target????? No way. It just "appears" where my pin was....but I can't sit here and tell you that I saw it hit where it did.

I'm just being honest.

RE: Do you all see your arrow hit and how??

Jeff, I know you and I have discussed this before, but bears repeating. The arrow doesn't fly directly away from the shooter....It starts below the line of sight, travels above the line of sight, and then back below. IF the arrow were flying DIRECTLY away in the exact line of sight, you would be 100% correct...all you should be able to see at that point would be the nock. But it doesn't.

I would be that most likely the reason you don't see it impact a deer is because you're shooting at a deer. Emotions are jacked up....adrenaline is pumping, and I don't know about you, but when I'm drawing down on a live deer, it's almost like a dream. I mean that in the literal sense....It's like I'm asleep and dreaming it.....

That's about the coolest part of the hunt! I dig that slow motion stuff that goes through your mind. I bring that home and redream it for several nights in a row.... just for fun!:D
When I'm at home practicing, i try and make it as real as i can. Draw back very slow and consentrate like a mother, just as if i was shooting a real deer!

RE: Do you all see your arrow hit and how??

I used to ALWAYS see my arrow when I used aluminums. When I went with ACC's, there's something about them that disappears to me. Well that and I'm getting older...lol I can see my arrows when I shoot target. I don't always see them at close shots on game. I do however see the skin of the animal open up from the Snyper huge hole. I wonder how many people are saying they see the impact not the arrow because of this.

At longer yardages it's easier to see the whole arrow flight like mobow says, the arrow passes the line of sight in it's arc. At short distance, this is much more difficult for me. My skinny black ACC's are traveling at 305 fps, I rely only on my bright Blazers for visual. If I don't see them or impact I always grab my binos anyway.

Do I see my arrows in flight and impact everytime, Hell no. I'm sure concentrating on the hair I'm aiming at tho. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't.

mobow 11-24-2007 06:42 PM

RE: Do you all see your arrow hit and how??

Schulty, that's a great practice, and one that should be done. It is not, however, a real deer, no matter how hard you concentrate.

Rob, I agree that smaller shafts and faster bows make this more difficult, especially on close shots.

GMMAT 11-24-2007 06:53 PM

RE: Do you all see your arrow hit and how??

Small shafts, fast bows and mostly close shots is all I've ever known in bowhunting.

I never knew the days of 230fps bows. My first bow was a Mathews 70# switchback. Now.....I can tell you....I see the flight of EVERY ARROW when I shoot my longbow. I know exactly where the arrow is at all times in flight.

So....I guess I can see where you guys are coming from.........."sort of";). If you're shooting 300fps a/c/c's though, you lost me.

mobow 11-24-2007 06:55 PM

RE: Do you all see your arrow hit and how??

I shot ACC's the last 2 years, in the upper 290's. I could see them....I'm just thinking out loud here.....I wonder if there's something mechanically being done differently that is allowing1 person to see it and another not to......Follow through maybe??? I dunno, just thinking...

GMMAT 11-24-2007 07:02 PM

RE: Do you all see your arrow hit and how??

The last two years you killed how many deer, mobo? How many 3D tournaments. Just asking. Believe me....I'm not calling a friend out.....I just wanna know the number so that I can know how many times you've seen the POI/fletch "phenomenon" ocur. I promise.

I'm trying to learn something here. Like I said....I can tell you EXACTLY where the deer was hit.....EVERY deer I've everkilled. How do I know this if I don't see the arrow impact? I don't know....but I'm SURE I know where the POI is. I'm just not going to sit here and tell you I SEE it (physically).

mobow 11-24-2007 07:06 PM

RE: Do you all see your arrow hit and how??

Ummmmm.....let me think here.......2 this year and 3 last year, and one coyote last year. Saw everyone. 3D tournaments? I'm not big into that scene, but I've shot a few. Now on those it's different, for me anyway. When I shoot 3D (except the HNI G2G last June) I shoot all black fletch. Seeing the POI is nearly impossible, but I see the arrow in flight.

I'm not calling anyone out here either, but if you see the POI you have got to be seeing the arrow...possibly not in flight, but you're seeing it.....Or am I misunderstanding your point?

well thats good, meams your not peeking!

RE: Do you all see your arrow hit and how??

Don I don't know "how" I know.....but I KNOW I know where I hit the deer I'm shooting. I can say I've never seen the fletching impact ......but I have seen the hole open up on one doe. I've killed a lot of deer at close range, though....and I don't think the human eye can discern that visual at that distance. I just don't buy it.

I'm just discussing this Don....and I trust you know that. I'm trying to understand. I don't doubt people either: 1) see it....or 2) Think they see it.

mobow 11-24-2007 07:20 PM

RE: Do you all see your arrow hit and how??

No, I know we're discussing...it's all good. Actually, I'm finding it rather interesting.

Here's something....if

and I don't think the human eye can discern that visual at that distance. I just don't buy it.
If the human eye can't discern that, maybe you are seeing the fletch, not the hole open up????

GMMAT 11-24-2007 07:25 PM

RE: Do you all see your arrow hit and how??

I dunno, Don......Like I said....I've only seen the hole open up, once. But I can tell you exactly where I hit every deer. So....I'm seeing something....OR....I'm trusting my arrow hits where my pin WAS.....and I'm projecting that.

mobow 11-24-2007 07:32 PM

RE: Do you all see your arrow hit and how??

Good enough, and that could very well be. I know you know, but just to reiterate, I'm not arguing either....

RE: Do you all see your arrow hit and how??

You might be subconsciously seeing the arrow hit. If you know you hit the spot you were aiming for. When I practice concentrating on the flight of the arrow helps me stay on target ,or follow through. Either way you need to keep the pin on the intended target as much as possible, this goes back to good form!

RE: Do you all see your arrow hit and how??

Awesome , I thought this thread might of got passed up, I should of known better;)I guess most important is follow through. I know where my arrow will hit so why try to watch it?? I;ll just keep concentrating on form and follow through.
I have to say , " THIS FORUM ROCKS"

RE: Do you all see your arrow hit and how??

I was taught to trust the shot, that "follow through" is just as important...it's always worked for me.

RE: Do you all see your arrow hit and how??

I haven't read all of the posts, anyway just watch the spot you are aiming at, not the arrow! I rarely see the arrow in flight, if I do I am not concentrating on the spot. I don't even want to see the arrow until after it hits.

Every deer I have shot i have seen the arrow hit.

RE: Do you all see your arrow hit and how??

I keep my eye on where I want to put my arrow after the shot and have always been able to watch the arrow either hit where I was aming or miss. I love the feeling after you know you pulled off a perfect behind the sholder shot.

RE: Do you all see your arrow hit and how??

I was always taught to over exaggerate my hold after the release. Trying not to move anything, especially my head after i squeeze the release. If you keep your eyes glued to your pin as you were when you were aiming. Hold the position like your taught after you release, you should be able to see your arrow hit and pass through or what not. Everyshot I've taken Ive seen the arrow at point of impact, seen several pass through and come out the other side. Does not make much a difference what fletchings your using...its all in your hold. Some people call that follow through, but as an ex QB follow through to me means motion, you do not want to make any movement after you hit that release, hold steady and keep your eyes glued to your pin and see the target.

RE: Do you all see your arrow hit and how??

Deer: 12 yds, 36 ft
Bow: 265 fps
Time of flight: .136 seconds

My eyes are horrible, both above 20/70 (but I do wear perscriptions to get them to 20/25 or so)

I shoot 1 green fletch and 2 off-white on a black shaft. The light for the above senario was fading fast, the darkest I have ever shot a deer in fact, about 10 minutes left on a cloudy evening. I saw the arrow just as it hit the deer. It 'seemed' to kick sideways a little bit at impact so I thoughtI had a deflection. I was right, it defectedclose to 30degrees. I wish I had 'imagined' seeing it to deflect.[:-]

Its all about concentration really and everyone is different when you get to that level of focus. Some guy's neurons just cannot fire fast enough to 'catch' those split second images. Then there are the times when you 'know' the shot is good and maybe there is a little 'imagining' involved. When I make a good shot at 75 yards practicing, I 'know' it before the arrow is half way there, then there (almost always)is the satisfying 'tink' of hiting the popcan attatched to the front of the target.
