What changes are you making to your equipment this winter?

I've been done deer hunting for a couple of weeks now, so thoughts turn the winter bow tinkering season LOL.

I started messing with my bow the other night. I stayed up all night, wrenching, tuning, adjusting, and shooting. I put on a new dropaway rest. I took off my NAP Quicktune 2000 and put on a QAD Ultrarest instead. I wanted a full containment dropaway. I also replaced my worn D-loop.

I'm also shooting FOBs. It took a few adjustments to get the FOBs to pass by without contact but they are shooting great now. I'll probably switch to a lighter arrow to pick up some speed. I had been shooting 500 grain Terminator Hunters (for the punch), but I'm looking at getting into a 400 grain arrow to pick up some speed. I'll likely switch to Rage 2 blades as well.

I think my strings and cables can probably make it through another season. They are showing very minor fraying and the servings are in good shape.

What changes are you guys making to your setups (if any) and WHY?

Well I have my new General and Marquis to setup, finish setting up. I'm trying the Limb Driver rest on the General. Same arrows, still Blazers but might switch to a hard offset with feathers, not sure yet.

I'm also thinking about the Airbornes and not sure how I'm going to set it up yet. Might get a Scott Wildcat, currently using a Truglo CopperHead. That's about it for now.

Two new Bowtech's to set up! Nice.

I also want to switch to a thumb trigger release. The Winn Free Flight glove is worn out and I think it's time to retire it. I'm looking at a Truball Pro Diamond when the Cabelas gift cards from Christmas come in LOL!

I'll probably be buying a new bow. Still debating between getting a cheaper/used one as a "back up". Or going full out, and moving my current one to the back up.

Too many interests, too little time & money.

I'll buy one of the airborne's to shoot 3D with for '08. New strings and cables on my Ally.

New bow, and POSSIBLY the QAD Ultra Rest as well. Just depends.....We're going to the ATA show in January, and from there we'll decide what new stuff we'll carry this year.....I'll be going from there...But there is a new bow in my near future.

Just got a couple of new strings for my longbow and a new shootin' glove. So I'm done! That's all the changes I had planned.:)

Come to think of it, I have been kinda getting the itch to make myself a new longbow, a straight limb Howard Hill style as a change of pace from my reflex/deflex bow.

Maybe a new bow. earlier this year I couldn't wait to get one. Now I'm having second thoughts. I'm still pretty happy with the bow I'm shooting.

Have a professional res-string my bow and align everything. Align my string release, paper test, my sights, etc. I have never done that with any bow that I've had...I just learned to shoot and adjust, over and over until I was hitting good. I want someone to make my life easier and align everything properly on my bow, so I can just concentrate on my form. Other than that, I would like to get an arrow saw to perfectly cut my arrows. I have cut them as best as I could the last 3 years on my own. Probably would like to buy a smoother more sensitive release....any suggestions on releases would help me out.

I am retiring the AR 31 in favor of a bow with an 80% let off. I have already picked up some accessories for my new purchase, just haven't decided on a new set up yet.

I may switch arrows. I currently shoot ACCs and have no complaints but I'd like to shoot a heavier arrow, so I'm thinking about FMJs. Plus I could use Tracer Nocks with FMJs and they don't fit my 3-49 ACCs.

Maybe a new string and an increase in draw weight, but other than that I'm very happy with my set up.

Would like a new bow..May or may not be in the budget.

As much as I like the HHA optimizer sight, Prior to next years opener I will be back to a 5 pin sight. As a deer is approaching I'm finding I don't like having to worry about adjusting the pin to a given distance. It's just one more thing to do..that isn't neccessary in my opinion.

If the Alley makes it till January..it will need new Strings/Cables.

Same thing ive done the last 6 years, nothing. If it aint broke, I aint going to fix it.;)

I am about to start making a new trad bow. My first try at starting from a stave. Ive backed and finished a few of my trad bows, but never cut one from a blank stave. It will be an interesting venture.

RE: What changes are you making to your equipment this winter?

I'll probably grab another dozen of the samearrows. This time, I'm going with those Rayzr feathers instead of the standard Gateways that I've been using forever. More elaborate crestings this time around. $100 for that.

I also need another retractable gear cord, b/c I broke mine (trying to stretch it past 25'). Another $25.

My Alpha Burly's ($90) are demolished, so it's time to replace them before turkey season. There's basically no tread left, and the neoprene is like swiss cheese. I can't even step in a mudpuddle anymore. My daypack ($40) also has one foot in the grave with zippers busting, seams pulling apart, and a few holes that appear to be growing... My scentlok gloves are also torn apart, so that's another $40 in replacement costs. And a couple gallons of scent killer per the annual usage ($50).

I'll be definitely sticking with the same stand/bow/rest/sight/quiver/stabilizer/STS/optics/camo etc...

I'll beswapping outmy used-up 2007 hunting licenses for some fresh new 2008 blank ones ($200).

So, lookslike I'll need to budget around$500 just to replace what I ruined this season, and another $1000 for deer-related fuel in '08. Hopefully all that energy translates into a couple nice bucks. If not, this guy will be one angry little man. [>:]

The first thing that I am doing after the season is over, is going down to Baltimore to see Len in Maryland at his shop, so he can give me the once over on my setup and draw length. I still think it might be a tad long.

Germ, curious why the QAD came off and a prong rest went back on....im planning to do the opposite lol....cant say i ever heard anything bad about them...know a couple guys that are rough on gear and wont put anything on their hunting bows that isnt upto par that shoot QADs

no problems with my nap 1000...except it aint idiot proof:eek: i know someone *cough* (mauser) *cough* that muffed up a beautiful shot this season...bow was laying on its side..arrow on the riser off the rest..12-14" 8pt..15yd broadside, close leg forward, stood up, drew back, broadhead caught the riser and i stood there like an idiot as my arrow balanced there somehow...ohhhh well thats huntin...

but i rather have a full containment drop away than a wisker biscuit....mainly because i tease my buddy about the wisker biscuit(in good fun..asking if he wants jelly on it) and could never show my face with one on my bow lol..
