You did the right thing... Head back tomorrow and go get your deer - wouldn't think he would be more than a couple of hundred yards - espically since you didn't push him....

Well guys, sad news.... we didnt recover him and most likely he will die.

Found great blood and sign for about 150yrds. Then 4+ beds all w/in 10 yrds of each other and blood on both sides of the beds, at this point I was getting exciting thinking we'd find him any second... BUT.

We think that we jumped him from there cause all we had were little spurts of blood/greenbrown guts, it was grainy as well...

Suprisingly we were able to follow little amounts of this stuff for about 250 yrds and it just died off in an area that had tons of deer trails going each way so we couldnt even try to follow him through the leaves. At that point we made several circles each getting slightly larger until we had about a 100 yard radius from the last sign. We couldnt pick anymore up after 2 hrs and decided to call it quits...

Its really tough, I only wonder if we'd waited just a couple more hours that he probably woulda died where he kept bedding down... But he was shot at 4:45 pm and we started at 8 this morn... so I thought we had enough time.

Theres nothin I hate more than losin a deer...

Get about 4-5 guys and spread out and grid search the area. If you are finding the sign you said you did, he is a dead deer. Go check around water in the area, that would be a great place to start. You will find him.

I wonder if something else didn't spook the deer that night like a dog or coyote or something? He should of been laying there dead otherwise!

Make sure that deer did not double back. Just wrote about this on another post and have had it happen twice to me, definately throws you off.
