BBD, finally connected this morning! Pics.
Well, after 6 weeks of hunting hard,i finally connected on this buck this morning. I hadn't seen a single deer all morning, and the only indicationof deer on the farm wasfrom hearing the ever familiar snort of a doe in the corn on the walk in. The morning drug on slow as I continued my grunting sequences about ever half hour or so. I decided at 7:30 to slam the horns together as I was sitting near a known buck bedding area. I hadn't even finished my sequence when 30 seconds into I saw a deer come out of the bedding cover heading right to me. It was a nice probabaly 120" 8 pointer that, through a season filled with frustration on this particular farm, I was kicking around shooting when I saw this guy following him to the scene looking for a fight. He came trotting in out of the thick cover on the trail that would cross my path at about 26 yards.
I drew on him......gave the "mant" settled my pin not concentrating on the rack or anything and let the arrow go. I heard the whack and watched him storm away and saw the blood pouring out of his side. I nearly lost it in the tree I was soo pumped. Unknowing to me it was a solid lung and liver hit, but I gave him about an hour and a half and found about 60 yards from where I saw him last.
When my buddy and I got this farm to hunt, in the first year we had seen more big deer than we had in our careers and we finally connected! I am just glad it happened right before the gun opener and was able to lay him out with my mathews. My best buck to date.
Anyone guess the score, he is about 19.5" inside, thats the only clue i can give, havent got all the measurements done yet and wanted to see what you all thought. Good luck hunting guys!
