Ethics Out The Window!
I have to tell this story..Some people should not be bow Hunting...
Yesterday I shot a beautiful 8Pt...185# buck with my bow...There was another hunter near my stand and saw the buck go down...I placed the shotat 20yds..THRU THE HEART..The deer only went about 30yds from my stand and fell...I decided to wait in my climber for 1/2 hour just to make sure he was dead...Thank god I called a friend who was on his way to help me because I would need him! As I was gathering up my stuff and calming down I saw the other hunter approach my deer...He then proceeded to take out an arrow and stab my deer, yes I said stab a dead deer...I could not believe my eyes! Needless to say I was stunned...This guy then proceeded to come over to my stand and show me the arrow and stated that we have a big problem, we both shot the same deer....Well I could not get down out of the tree fast enough! While I was climbing out of the tree I called my friend again who was on his way to my stand...I would need him to help calm me down! By the time I got to my deer this guy was getting out his knife to dress the deer....I asked him what the hell are you doing...he said he was going to dress his deer...that is when I lost it!..You see I saw him stand over my deer and stab it....It is too bad for thim that when he stabbed the deer he hit it in the shoulder bone and his arrow only went in about an inch...My broad head broke off after it severed its heart and was still in the deer... This guy wanted to fight over my deer...he started to get extremely angry and claimed that he had seen the deer the night before and scented the whole area, to which I replied thank you...You did a great job, probably not the best thing to say but I could not believe what was happening.. My buddy was whistling so I responded to him...this guy asked what I was doing and I said letting my buddies know where I was so they could help me drag out my deer...As they approached he got nervous and took off...I still can not believe this whole thing happened..Who would ever try to claim someone else's deer? Some people should not be allowed to hunt! Dave |
RE: Ethics Out The Window!
I agree I went to my stand about 3 weeks ago and some idiot was sitting in it.I was on private property and was the only one with permission. I lost it also I know how you feel some people are just stupid.

RE: Ethics Out The Window!
Great first post there Dave. Lucky it wasn't here in PA or it would of been a panther trying to steal it from you.;)

RE: Ethics Out The Window!
Wow, that guys a tool. I don't understand how someone could be like that.
|
RE: Ethics Out The Window!
Wow that is sad. I just can't believe how many vermin exist in our society. You always need to be on guard and fight for what is yours. I would not have let him take the deer. Glad it worked out for you.

Thanks for joining just to tell us that! Now isn't study-hall about over?

RE: Ethics Out The Window!
That stinks, but glad it worked out.
I had a guy take a deer off me years ago when I was gun hunting. I made a less than perfect but fatal shot. Long story short, I blood trailed the deer for a couple hundred yards then all of a sudden I hear "Boom". I walk a bit farther and there is my deer laying there dead. The guys says it's is his deer, but he can't explain why the deer only had one hole in it. I was steaming mad but it was an old guy so I just let it go. It's pretty sad whatsome guys will stoop to in order to claim a deer. |
RE: Ethics Out The Window!
I would of had to open a can on that boy!!!

RE: Ethics Out The Window!
Study hall?

RE: Ethics Out The Window!
It has happened to me before and hopefully will never happen again. In my case the deer made it across the river and by the time I walked the 3 miles, it was just a gut pile. The guy living south of there denied any knowledge of my deer, but his kids started shuffling their feet and looking down when he said that. I did what I thought was right and notified DNR. Then I found out that he didn't have a license so the meat went to feed the needy and the head and rack were destroyed by DNR.

RE: Ethics Out The Window!
Well, this sucks, but I have a feeling we are getting one side to the story. Always two different sides.
One, why would you hunt so close to another hunter? One or both you guys didn't respect the space. Two, yes, I have seen it happen. I shot an 8pt 2 years ago with a gun, it ran 30 yards, and fell. I saw another guy on the ridge, breaking his neck to shoot around a tree, and saw him shot it on the ground. To then claim it. what I did, was let him have it. It was only 14" spread. And I prayed heavily about it before I got down, and told God, it was up to him. And God answered. Maybe his family needed the meat, and I was glad not to end my season. Why the other guy did it. Who knows. |
RE: Ethics Out The Window!
ORIGINAL: gplant I would of had to open a can on that boy!!! Some people have got nerve and NO ethics whatsoever. The guy is probably a slob in everyday life too. |

RE: Ethics Out The Window!
Heres a good story about two hunters and one deer. One of my friends dad had a similar thing happen to him. He shot a deer and the deer proceeded to run up to the top of a ridge. Well some guy that was on the other side of the ridge saw the deer and shot it again. This time it was dead. The guy on the other side of the ridge gave the deer to my buddys dad who had shot it first. The guy on the other side of the ridge just didnt want to see the deer suffer so he took it out, and was happy to give it to the person who had shot it first.

RE: Ethics Out The Window!
Wasn't near Brookville was it Kidd?? Old exit...hmm 10 or 11?
|
RE: Ethics Out The Window!
I don't know why someone would want a deer that they didn't shoot in the first place.
|
RE: Ethics Out The Window!
One side of the story? There is only one side...I left out that he walked under my stand at about 7 am...I had been there since 6am...I have been hunting this area for 20 years and have never seen him before...I grunted at him to let him know I was there...I had to whistle to get him to look up at me...I asked him where he was heading and he said to the next ridge..To my knowledge I am one of the few people who has permission to hunt this peice of land...I have 5 hang-on stands in the area and use my climber when the wind is wrong for the others...
I shot this buck about 15 min after he walked thru...he must have stayed close because from the next ridge he would have to make about a 100 yd shot with a bow...In fact the only stand on the next ridge mine that has been there for about 10yrs... The part that gets me is that he was so upset that someone else got this deer he was willing to stab a dead deer...I guess he figured that he could not explain stabbing it twice...that would be a great trick to get off two shots with a bow at a pope and young buck...My second from this stand in three years! His flaw was that his arrow only went in about an inch and he hit the shoulder bone, in his haste he also did not realize that I watched him do it from my stand! The deer only went 30yds and head first into a tree...I could see it from my tree! He was on it in about 5 min after my shot..My bet is that he was on the ground and saw the whole thing...I would be upset that I did not get the buck but would congratulate the hunter, not stab a dead deer and claim to have shot it! RE: Ethics Out The Window!
I'd of had to open a can of "WHOOP ASS" on that dude. Hard to believe anyone could stoop that low. Glad it worked out for you!!!!

RE: Ethics Out The Window!
That really bites! I had a guy take the second deer I ever shot with a bow in 1969. I was 13. My Dad and I followed the blod trail to a canal where the deer crossed, breaking the ice and died on the opposite bank. Some guy walks up and tags it! Mine was the only arrow in the deer! Everyone hunted with recurves back then, for the most part. My Dad yells to the guy saying he hopes he chokes on the venison. We watched as he dragged off my buck, a 6 pointer. I asked my Dad why someone would take someone elses deer. At 13, I couldn't comprehend how anyone could get any satisfaction from taking a deer that they didn't shoot. I'm 50 now and still don't get it![:@]

RE: Ethics Out The Window!
i would have beat that guys ass right there on the spot. he would have been begging my friend to pull me off of him.
|
RE: Ethics Out The Window!
If this guy has truly been after that buck for a while I could see him being frustrated, but certainly not enough to stab a dead deer and try to claim it. What a wack-o. You are right, he should not be allowed to hunt.

RE: Ethics Out The Window!
In a nutshell, I want my deer NOT yours. How can you tell the story from his perspective. It's like poaching a deer and then showing it off.

I know guys like that...There is one who has a feeder with a trip light...the light goes on and he shoots the bucks at the feeder, then he has nerve enough to show them off, have them mounted ect...How can you live with yourself?
All of this in a Bow Only Zone!!! |

RE: Ethics Out The Window!
Boy.. these are some real terrible stories. GregH, at 13 yrs. old your takes the cake. My ole' man probably would have fired a warning shot!
Seriously.. I have heard so many stories like this over the years. Recently this past weekend I shot a brute on some land I was hunting for the first time ever and as I was sitting there after I made the shot and it crossed my mind more than once. I was not familiar with any of the neighbors, my buck had fallen out of sight, and the land was real new to me. It was a long hour and a half wait! I don't understand most people.. I just don't. |
RE: Ethics Out The Window!
There are certainly all kinds out there. Sometimes you wonder how some ever got a license. I would never fight over a deer. In all my years of hunting, I have walked away from three that I knew (no doubt in my mind) were mine, but not worth getting aggrevated with some idiot while carrying a weapon.

RE: Ethics Out The Window!
Uses a 308 in a bow Zone...Have made a call..they said they would investigate...Last year I watched a real slammer all summer..Hit into him but way low...he was still running several weeks later...Someone stopped on the road and shot him on the RR tracks with a rifle...He died next to one of my stands...We reported the shots but police did nothing...There are many hnters that should not be allowed to hunt...even the taxidermist did not care...he mounted the buck for the guy...

RE: Ethics Out The Window!
Dave,
You need to call your State Game Agency not the police. Give them a description of this guy and vehicle. Here in PA , they would love to go after a guy like that. |
RE: Ethics Out The Window!
He gave up the fight after he saw that I could still see my deer from my stand..I know that if I would be disappointed but would never do anything like that. He knew he was done when he pushed the arrow in and hit that bone..he could not do it again and explain three holes in the deer...This buck was on a doe and I watched him for about 10 min before he gave me the shot...there were no other holes in him...I just can't believe it happened...
I have had things like this in rifle season but never with a bow..you gotta be so close ect...in fact I have finished off wounded deer for people with a rifle and then wait until they show up to show them where their deer are... I guess there are all kinds out there...If I could not see my deer and waited an hour I would have found a gut pile... Dave |
RE: Ethics Out The Window!
I had a buddy of mine call me today to tell me he was going on a "hunting" trip Thur.-Sat. at a "ranch". He proceeded to tell me that the deer are guaranteed at that he could get 1 buck for $3000 or 2 $1500 dollar bucks that would not be as big. He said that the place ships its does off to a plant where they collect the urine every couple of days and that the bucks that are not the best breeder bucks are the ones they get to shoot(but these are still some nice bucks). You can shoot the breeder bucks but they are way more expensive, for example thetwo best bucks on the place are worth about $15,000 each.
I asked him why he doesn't just get the guy to e-mail pictures of the bucks, he could pick one and just send him the moneywith a little extra for the mount and the guy could just ship him a finished mount(hey at least he would save on gas, and the cost of 2 bullets). I told him that maybe for an extra $20 the "ranch"would include a BS story to tell all of his hunting buddiesand anyone else that sees the mount. His uncle and 5 of his friends just got back from 2 similiar places and spent over $30,000 and then want to try to tell me their "hunting" tales. It is sad and funny all at the same time, the only thing bigger than the racks are their ego's but to each their own, I guess. I don't know if this is "unethical" like the guy stabbing the deer but it sure isn't for me. |

I just wish I had 30 G's to invest in hunts. I'd go on 10 or 15 DIY's.
