How many hunt alone and why?
|
RE: Hunting alone
I do sometimes.....dont have to worry bout others messin up hunts...and most of the time its seimply because my cousins cant make it over to some with me or I just have no one to go with....
|
RE: Hunting alone
I do, but when I can help it, I have a buddy with me. I like to share memories. And I tend to get myself in trouble when I am alone. Its alot more fun and safe with a friend in my case. This doesn't mean that I don't strike out on my own when no buddies are around. This time of year is way to precious not to be out there.

RE: Hunting alone
I hunt solo. I guess I'm just a loner but really I just like to do things my way and not worrying about anyone else.
|
RE: Hunting alone
I do so I dont talk the entire time

RE: Hunting alone
im with mert 04, i use to hunt with a group and wouldnt take anything back, Had some great times. I hunt with my boss once in awhile on his land but Im hunting his setup. On my lil piece of hunting property I hunt alone most of the time, Ive had the best success doing this also its nice to have 100 acres all to yourself with no pressure. I can hangnumerous stands and hunt the wind without worrying about whos gonna be there or here. ive became a pro at field dressing by myself also.. Ill invite a friend here and there but when the rut is on Im alone..

RE: Hunting alone
With two kids, three dogs, a cat with six kittens, a screeching bird and a yapping woman around....I hunt to BE alone.
|
RE: Hunting alone
I hunt most the time by myself. My wife use to hunt with me.I go hunting once a year with friends.About the most weirdest hunt I ever went on with someone was with a Bull Dike. She was nice company,it was just strange forgetting every once in awhile she was a girl.

RE: Hunting alone
never bowhunted with anyone.
why?? i guess because i dont have buddies that truely share the same passion i do. ya, i have friends that bow hunt...but they arent like me...dont take scouting to the degree i do, dont practice scent control to the degree i do, dont sit as long as i do, dont go in as early as i do etc etc.... if i found a buddy that was like me, id gladly tag team with them...find multiple stand locations in the area so we can both hunt...scout together..2 sets of eyes are better than 1...but finding someone like me around here isnt easy lol kinda funny though...me and a buddy DID kinda tag team this year...i helped him scout and told him "THERE!" that tree! he helped me hang a stand that day as well...i knew where it was gettin hung. i hunted from the climber opening morning not far from where we hung that lock on...he killed a buck opening morning and i was there to help him gut and drag and congradulate him... 2 weeks later we went to his camp..last year i helped him take down all his stands up there even though i never stepped foot in them..i been flintlock and grouse hunting up there..told him id like to goto the "hemlock tree" stand and he said hed walk me there in the morning....i killed my buck from his tree that morning! he was grouse hunting up on the mountain top...got on the radio "BUCK DOWN BABY!!" and he was on his way.... it was awesome bein there for him, and him bein there for me...but i also like being solo...with those hunts we didnt really hunt together...just were both nearby when we killed...he thinks im nuts for scouting all year...having locations all over the place...etc...hes happy with ANY buck...which is fine, but if i get selective, id rather him not be shooting small bucks in areas we have to hunt....i dont know..i just need someone that is just like me to consider them a true hunting partner come spring turkey or bow season... no reason i should do all the work...i dont know...i enjoy hunting alone in bow season and spring gobbler season...i take hunting too seriously to "enjoy" having someone muffing up my hunts...i enjoy the solitude of being out there alone...save the fun and comrodity for rifle, flintlock or small game season |
RE: Hunting alone
Hunt alone 90% of the time. Tough to find someone thats as into it as I am. I tend to be obsessive compulsive about all my hobbies and its tough to find anyone who can keep up. Wouldn't mind it though if it happened.

RE: Hunting alone
Yes Alone! Why?
Just always have since I was a kid. Brothers were in to other things. Friends just didn't either. Deer hunting was a passion for me and not anyone around me. So I spent a lot of years in the woods by myself until I met my wife. She has a Passion like me for being in the woods hunting. So we hunt together now full time. Eric S. Stacy and wife Kerry |
RE: Hunting alone
I mostly hunt alone. I have no problem going in alone and coming out alone, it's very stealthlike however, I really do sharing it a hunt with a good hunting friend.
And I love tagging alone when I'm tagged out if someone would have me. ;) Have camera, will climb tree. :D |
RE: Hunting alone
Always by myself. I don't have many buddies that bowhunt. I don't mind being out there by myself anyway.
|
RE: Hunting alone
I do like to hunt alone also. It's being out there doing it by yourself the adventure the solitude and like some the passion for the sport. I think you learn more from being there alone and learning from your mistakes.
|
RE: Hunting alone
I do. 99.999% of the time. Come and go as I please, when I please and where I please.
|
RE: Hunting alone
well i live in an area that there isnt a lot of hunters. and then you add in my age (18), that narrows the number of hunters, let alone bow hunters in my area down significantly. most of the time i will hunt alone. out of a couple of different friends that do hunt deer, they dont bowhunt besides one, and we are neighbors and best friends so we do pretty much everything together, especially hunting. its nice to have someone like that. other than him there is noone else that i bowhunt with.
|
RE: Hunting alone
For me deer hunting is a solitary endeavor.
|
RE: Hunting alone
I hunt alone a lot of the time, but its not that much fun sometimes. I like to go with my brother we always make a story to tell! We dont hunt side by side though we are in diffrent areas but close by.
|
RE: Hunting alone
Always hunt alone, friends are to lazy to bowhunt, they just want that quick kill with a gun.
|
RE: Hunting alone
I've bowhunted alone since I started. That way if I screw up I know I'm the only one to blame.
I don't have the same schedule as alot of my buddies either. |
RE: Hunting alone
I mostly hunt alone or with my dad. I usually go alone because no one i know is as committed and passionate about it as i am. The whole getting out and putting in thehours isnt alot of peoples idea of enjoyment, they just want the glory of shooting something every time out. I harvested my first bow deer when i was out by myself and it was an awesome feeling. Sometimes i like the company but i also like only having to worry about myself.

RE: Hunting alone
This was my first year out with a bow, have done all the practice, prepared myself for anything, but hunting to me is all about the hunt, the preparedness for the season, the life that is out there other then your damn job, buck or no buck I always cherish the time I can spend with a good hunting buddie.

RE: Hunting alone
I've spent most of my life hunting alone. I was hunting alone at age 8 in the Adirondacks, 55 years ago. About my only break from that was a few years hunting with Len in Maryland. Oh I've had social hunts and the such, but my serious time in the woods is alone.
|
RE: Hunting alone
i find it really hard to hunt with a partner because i cant keep my mouth shut. however it is a great time when i can because it really creates lots of great memories!!! especially if you video tape the hunts.
|
RE: Hunting alone
My Dad is my huntin' buddy, and it'sgiven us a father/son relationship that I've never seen with anybody else. We hunt togther at least 50% of the time (same area, but not right next eachother), but at the same time, when he's tied up or I can't make it, the other is still out there enjoying the hunt. We'veboth been in eyeshot and watched the other make a kill or two. . .and there is something very special about those moments.
|
RE: Hunting alone
Mostly alone now that my Dad has lost a lot of interest. I don't have everyday friends who are hardcore into hunting.I will hunt on occasion witha few of thehunting friends I do have and a few here from HNI I've hunted with. I enjoy getting together with people, but for my every meat of my hunting adventures, its very much solo.

RE: Hunting alone
I always tell my mom that I'm out there with somebody. [:-]
The reality is that 98% of the time I'm out there hunting or trapping by myself. Last year back in the otherwise desertedparking area, three guys came up to me and asked if I was there by alone. I almost said, "No, my big, short-tempered boyfriend will be here any moment." Instead I just answered "Yes." and hoped they weren't escaped loonies. Turns out they were cool guys asking an innocent question. I have run intoa couple ofweirdos out there though. [:o] |
RE: Hunting alone
I prefer to hunt alone. I work a crazy work schedule and have 4 kids and a wife that runs her own business. sometimes I have to cancel hunts and sometimes when I do get a chance to hunt I stay in stand all day. I have yet to find anyone else willing to do that. I have a couple buddies that I hunt with once in awhile, just because they ask and I dont want to offend anyone. we usually have fun, but i look forward to solitude.

RE: Hunting alone
I've been lucky enough to have the same hunting/fishing partner for over 30 years. Whenever he can't go I go alone. We both love to hunt together but we aren't going to sit around and mope when one or the other can't make it. Now that my son is old enough to be a new hunting buddy I may have fewer solo hunts in the future. Either way, it's all good.

RE: Hunting alone
I hunt alone. It is hard enough to kill a big buck with one person let alone 2
