Each have their niche. The mechanicals fly like field points, even out of bows not perfectly in tune. Some of them produce very large wound channels. But there are more things to go wrong with them. And generally the fixed COC heads give more reliable penetration, particularly on large game.

If you can get them to fly out of your bow, and know how to put an edge on a piece of cutlery; it is hard to beat the Montec. Just about indestructable. Good for everything that walks, swims, crawls, or flys. Hellrazor is also good. Muzzy and Slicktrick for those who don't have sharpening skills.

I've been playing with the Rage 2 blade this year. Have seen two Mulie bucks fall to this head in the past week. Still not convinced this is the best head for elk, though.

My 2 cents, Go with a cut on contact broadheads. I've used both and if you make a perfect hit and don't hit bones then the expandable will do a great job. Yet when passing through the rib cage that's hard to do at times.COC's will go through easier and I believe they will glance off ribs and keep on going through. A clear pass through is what you need for the quickest kill and best blood trail.

I prefer Replaceable blade Broadheads. I really don't see any advantage with mechanicals. I have several kills with both style heads, but fixed are in my Quiver now;)

Fixed.

Like anything else, the less moving parts, the less problems you'll have.

Plan on shooting forty and out. Machanical fly better. But want cutting, shoot fixed.
Tried both over the years and am back to original fixed.

I use mechanicals, rocket steelhead 100 grain. I like em because they fly as true as my field tip, i've not had any problems with them. I just took about a 200 pound 8 pointer yesterday morning with them. I didnt have a great angle and ended up hitting forward in the shoulder. Arrow penetrated 3/4ths of the way into the shoulder and the deer went 40 yards. Last Sunday i took a doe that didnt go 10 yards.
