RE: Odds of arrowing a P & Y,... interesting
I am going to guess that these numbers are skewed a little bit. Just for the simple fact that all people don't enter theirs. So the odds might be just a tad better, won't be a lot better, but just a tad.

I'd bet PA would top the list for least likely but alas, that may change in the future unless the emotions of many ruin the point restrictions.
We have high numbers of animals but 80% shot are 1.5 year olds and with the number of hunters afield, our percentage must rot.

yea Rob, I was thinking to add a couple zeros on to the last entry and you'll come up with PA's odds.
That said, they do take some absolute bruisers out of the pittsburgh area each year. There is your best chance in the state.

That is pretty neat although it is not truely representative of someones chances. I know some guys that kill P&Y deer every year and others that don't stand a decent chance, if they hunt until they are 469. All hunters being equal that would be the likelihood of killing a P&Y however for some of his the chances are far greater while for others of us the chances are far lower. That data does tell a tale though. It's no wonder WI has the most P&Y entries with that many hunters. Using that data if Iowa had as many bowhunters as Wisconsin, they would kill 1182 P&Y entries. I am booking my trip right now

Wow, just comes to show that not many people enter P&Y. In real life I would assume around 1-10 at the most on average. I don't hunt the best part of the state either.
A suprising stat is the number of bowhunters. Kansas is near the bottom and not even close to some states. The North and eastern states must really be crowded!

I hear ya silent. I wish I could hunt IA all the time. Much better odds! Quite a difference in MI and WI with the same ave. hunter base though.

Yep, I would think the number is skewed, I dont know anyone who hunts with a bow that would qualify for the Pope and Young. I myself have shot and and missed 2. A few years ago my buddy shot the 8th biggest deer shot in WV for that year with a bow, he never submitted it to the state, just the way some guys are.

Those numbers are off a tad , if you consider 50,000 a tad. Wisconsin has alot of bowhunters , but for license sales , it's very deceiving. I know of at least a dozen people in my area that buy a license every year , but never step in the woods. An archery license is also included in a sportsmans license which alot of hunters and trappers buy to save money overall , but dont bowhunt.
Here are some factual numbers. 2002 is not listed , but you can subtract 20% from 2001 and get the total. Our license sales were down 20% in 2002.
