My monster was poached
My father found one of our bucks about 400 yards away from our farm yard. Looks like he was gut shot sometime over the weekend when no one was home. Mother was out of town at a wedding and my father, brother, and I were hunting in the Black Hills afew milesfrom Deadwood. I guess we need to make sure someone is home from now on. This guy was a bruiser.

RE: My monster was poached
how do you know he was poached? was he hit w/ a rifle in closed season?
|
RE: My monster was poached
Shame he went to waste, he is a beauty.
|
RE: My monster was poached
could it have been a bad hit? I would think if he was poached they would have taken the rack??
|
RE: My monster was poached
Does anyone within a mile or 2 have permission to hunt deer or are there any deer hunters that close. You said it was gut shot so someone may have shot it and lost the trail. A gut shot deer can go forever before it expires, especially if it gets chased or bumped a lot.Just a thought though.... That is a very nice deer.

RE: My monster was poached

|
RE: My monster was poached
thats ashame whether he was poached or not...
|
RE: My monster was poached
I don't know who would have shot it.Our nearest neighbor that hunts lives a little over 4 miles away and that is just with a rifle. I don't anyone that hunts with a bow anywhere close. Very few trees around here, so archery hunting is pretty hard.

RE: My monster was poached
That stinks! Poachers are just sorry dogs.
|
RE: My monster was poached
Don't fool yourself into thinking that paoching wouldn't happen when someone is hmoe. Poachers work at all times of day. Could happen at night while you're all sound a sleep.
I hate to even guess how much paoching goes on around our family farrm. It sucks! |

[:'(] and dont take it personally...i just wanted more info...you just said the deer was gutshot. some (not pointing this at you) have the notion that if a deer shows up dead on their property it must have been poached....so i wanted to make sure. |
RE: My monster was poached
Sorry to hear, beautiful buck.

RE: My monster was poached
I think the death penalty should be used against all poachers...

I know last year I went to the Feed Mill one of my neighbors was in there before season. She says there was a nice Buck killed off your place the other day.I asked what did it get hit by a Car? No it was shot [:@]Truth around here you can't get much done unless they are caught doing it.

RE: My monster was poached
First, I am very sorry to hear about your buck. What a shame poachers are rediculous.
Second, I am going to look into this and find the article, but several years ago(maybe like 10) A guy got caught poaching deer in Valley Forge Park, which is a national park here in PA. And I think he got life in prison to be 100% honest. I dont think it was one case of poaching, think they linked him to some rediculous amount, but I need to do some reasearch when I can. If i find it ill post it. They do not take poaching lightly in national/federal parks. Not that they do elsewhere but obviously their not out looking for them 24/7. |
RE: My monster was poached
I don't get it. The guy said it's his deer. Is it his pet that got shot? Or did he shot the deer and called it his deer now? :D

RE: My monster was poached
Nice buck!
Poachers are scumbags! |
RE: My monster was poached

RE: My monster was poached
That stinks ! that was a beautiful buck. Some of these slobs do get caught.
Tuesday the PGC nabbed a guy and his 2 nephewshere in Treasure Lake. He WAS a contractor here in town. He's been paoching deer for 3 or 4 years. He had the nerve to mount them for his garage. All of them were P & Y class. Used a .22 hornet to kill them. A fellow bowhunter got wise to them and marched into his garage unannounced. They were caught red handed. They had SEVERAL 5 gallon buckets of deer parts in the garage. I spoke with the arresting officer today. This guy will soon be broke from fines and will probably do some serious jail time. What comes around, goes around. |
RE: My monster was poached
Sorry to burst your bubble there buddy, but it those deer are not yours, even if they are on your land. But anyway too bad they had to be poached.
|
RE: My monster was poached
thats a shame but im sure it wasnt poached, Im sure it wasa bad hit, and its not "Your Monster" unless you bought it. If its free ranging, it belongs to who ever shot it. The bad part is Im sure it was a bad shot and the person who shot it wasnt able to find it. It happens and its a risk we all take bow hunting.
