Here’s the “Story”.

I posted yesterday that I just had “that feeling”. I don’t know what it was, but I had “it”. I didn’t sleep well, last night, and I got on up at 3:30 and got showered. I left for my tree really early…..thinking I needed to trim a limb when I got there. I bumped nothing I know of going in so early…..and I got to my tree and started up. Funny…no limb to trim. Damn it. I’m in the wrong tree. Oh well….let’s ride it out. I climbed the wrong tree once, earlier this season and took a doe, that day. I can’t be far from the right tree, anyway.

Climb up…..settle in….and promptly drop my tree umbrella. 0 for 2, so far. Stars are out, so I guess I’m lucky. Before daylight….the clouds roll in and the wind kicks up. I now see NO stars. Darn it. I’m gonna get wet. The wind picks up and I can’t hear deer, now. I’ll have to get a visual on them. First light and I see a BIG doe. I start to think about shooting her….and she goes back into the bedding area. I see 6-7 more does and a BB….but nothing really interesting. I see another BIG doe….and I decide I’m gonna take her. The ONLY thing stopping me was….my lower limb’s gonna hit the top rail of my climber if I shoot from this angle. So…she walks. Dumb luck. 45 seconds later….I hear the first deer of the day. It’s “him”. I see enough antler to know I would love to have him…..and he dogs one of the little does. I turn in my stand and he’s behind a sapling. When he steps out I “maaa”. Nothing. I “Maaaa”, louder….and he stops. Hes 20 yds…and I shoot. I spined him. He goes half down and I reload. Miss. I reload…..and hit him. He’s still moving….I shoot, again. Hit. It’s all over in 20 seconds.

I climbed down…..went home to tell my wife…and then went to work on retrieving him. I got him field dressed, butchered and caped….and he’s at the taxi. My taxi made my day when he told me he is at least 3.5 (he’ll age his jawbone and get back with me.

When he said this…..I got to thinking…..”could it be”? So…I’ll ask you…..is this the bull? I’m anxious to know what others think. I’ve been trying not to think like that….but WHAT a story in “my” bowhunting life….if it’s him.
