Thank you Rob
I was having a tough time getting my point across and you hit it. I do have written permision on nonleased land. And if these people are not civil, ethical, sportsmen,etc.... And ya know what. Honestly if they were it would be a whole different ball of wax. This matter would be treated much much different IF they were respectable civilized people. Heck I'd probably not even pursue hunting the land.

Again,... it really depends. People in these small NY countryside towns who have lived there all their lives tend to stick to old traditions. I tell you, if you do make this a big deal you'll more than likely loose. You say this guy has NO relationship with the landowner. Well, he does. He's been letting him post his land for 20 years for nothing. Heck, they're neighbors. If I were the guy and you went to the landowner to try and force me out... my first statement would be something like, "farmer bob, we've known each other for 25 years. My boys and I have hunted and taken care of your place like it was our own for 20 years. My boys and I have never caused you any trouble or been a problem. Now this guy comes along and starts making up stories and is trying to get me thrown off.... just so he can hunt here. I don't understand that. You know we've never had problems. Never caused problems. Have lived here next to you forever. The problems started with HIM. I'll try and get along if you say so... but I hate people making up lies about me and my boys. You know that I've never done anything like he claims. He's the one with problems. I hate this mess is going on. You don't need it. You've always been a straight shooter to me and treated me right. It's him that's causing all this friction. What do you think?"

First of all regardless of how long they have hunted there the landowner has the right to decide who hunts his land. It would suck but that is the way it is. I would try to lease the poroperty and then I would take video cameras etc. with me to document things if they tried to interfere with my hunting. If that didn't work I would get one of my 6 packs of Insta Ass Whoop out and explain to them that they were harassing the wrong ***** ******!

It sounds like you tried to be diplomatic. When dimplomacy doesn't work you must resort to other options. You got rights just like he does.

If a man and his sons lease a property, who are you to go talk to the landowner and get the guy out of there? He was there first, and he leased it first. If you went to the landowner and ruined what I had, I wouldn't take it lying down either.

If the guy wouldn't have acted the way he did he wouldn't have to worry about that in the first place. I say try to lease the ground for yourself. If not then decide whether you are going to fish or cut bait. How much are your rights worth to you? If you decide you are going to hunt then I would be prepared to ***** slap the dude if he harassed me. I would be prepared to take it to whatever level he chose to take it to. He would automatically take it to ***** slap level by harassing me! My motto is don't mess with them and don't let them mess with you!

Just my 2 cents, but this situation to me shows the problem with "handshake" deals. It would be a lot better if everyone got their permission or lease agreement in writing and spelled out all the terms. Whether you are the landowner or the hunter, you should want everything written out so that there are no suprises. A lot of these problems could be avoided with some pre-planning.

I SAY......BACK OFF!!! GET OUT!!! Find someplace else to hunt. If you own a frickin' golf course you should have more than ample resources to find and hunt other land. 350 acres is NOT enough for that many hunters to be hunting. Not even close! These guys have been hunting that same land for decades and if they have been "watching" it for the landowner then so frickin' be it. Who are you to come in and piss on their parade? You know how many times I have asked permission and been granted it by a landowner only to find out that there is already someone else who has permission to hunt it as well? I bow out and find something else, that's hunting etiquette IMO. Many landowners don't hunt and don't have the first clue what hunting involves...especially bowhunting. If the landowners are just nice good ole boys they will let anyone in to hunt but that doesn't mean that you should!!! You should have let it go! You said yourself, "I truly feel the landowner has been taken advantage of. He has no idea about hunting or the work that goes into it pre-season (putting up stands/scouting). we invested a lot of time on that land to have those people do that to us" What about what the hell you did to them!!!! THEY have 20 frickin' years invested in the property butthead! You should have recognized this and LET IT GO!!!

"And I don't want to seem like we want to take over the land totally, but Ummmmmm I guess I do. They deserve it!!" That comment makes me want to frickin' puke. You suck! So you and Biff and the boys from the country club want to annex farmer Ted's property to convert into the Beverly Hills Bowhunting Club...nevermind that Cooter and his sons have been hunting the land for 20 years and built lifelong memories there, you have the Conquistador mentality and manifest destiny makes it yours...you go Donald Trump. Bottom line is you suck...really bad!!!

Well put Wolfen,
I'll consider the source and take that into advisement. You don't happen to be one of them are you??? Biff and the boys was pretty funny though I gotta give you that. Just a couple of things though for what it's worth to you.
1. Far from Beverly Hills Country Club
2. I'm not even close to Donald Trump. There are many levels of owning a golf course and this one is certainly not the most presigous, but whatever.
3. I don't have any friends named Biff
4. I don't have ample resources to hunting land if I did obviously I wouldn't have asked permission.
5. I was simply asking for opinions to see how I should handle the situation. Evidentely you don't like golf or someone pissed in your cherios this morning, but you could've stated your opinion in a more civilized manner. That's why I posted this ...... to decide what the ethical thing to do is and if I am wrong!!!
6. I am a butthead but not for those reasons

thanks for your 2 cents (together with a token may get me on a bus)

I agree with wolfen. If ya can't come to some kind of compromise with this guy, which sounds to me to be impossible, then I would get out and find another place to hunt. I can understand his displeasure of sharing ground that he and his sons have had to themselves for 20 years. He's definately going about it the wrong way but 20 years, man!!! I would honor that and back away.
