I'm new to bowhunting and was up on my stand this passed saturday. At around 7:15am 3 doe walked by just out of range, then 10min later a 6pt. buck walked right thru the same trail. My ? is the rut on in lower dutchess NY?

I have been seeing bucks chasing the does trying to check them,but the does run away from them. the bucks are starting to wander.

Bucks are out seeking right now but the does arent ready just yet. If you have days off coming to you, start taking them NOW. The wandering has begun.

I went out this past weekend Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I did not see a single buck trailing any of the does that came in. In fact 2 different does still had their yearlings with them.

Hopefully the action will pick up next weekend(next chance I have to hunt[:@]), but then again I'll be spending the later part of Saturday hanging out with my buddies from West Point, should be a good weekend [8D].

You're in the wrong spot then.. i saw a ten point 3 feet behind the doe sprintint through the woods.. apparently she wasnt gonna stop for him.. then within 20 minutes a decent 8 point came by following and sniffing the entire path.. then another 30 minutes went by and a 4 point came by following the exact trail of the doe again sniffing and going in the same direction... this was on saturday... guarantee ya, if you go out, and youre in a good spot.. youre gonna see em running around quite a bit.. be ready though.. you might have a 4 or 5 second shot and you dont wanna be caught with your pants down... i was, and it cost me a big ten point... keep ur bow ready at all times!!

I have seen the same as most. The buck are chasing, but the doe are running right now. Got a big bruiser that has been looking, but I have seen at least eight different doe run from him.

man all this talk is making me feel like calling out of work. I'm new to bowhunting and love it already, ready to sell the shotgun..I have had doesand bucks run by just out of range.I havent used any scent just yet. should i? i mean they are just out of range only about 45yards from my stand.. i have VS-1 and something calledbomb something forgot the name. what do u guys think?

Nothing here in Chemung county yet. Havnt even seen the bucks chasing does. They are still separated. Hope it kicks in soon, I have a doe tag to fill yet.

it depends on the area. I havent seen any hard chasing going on, but 30 minutes away my friend has. I had 4 bucks two days ago just cruising around. I hope tommorrow will kick thinks of here on LI. supposed to get colder than its been

Go spotlighting and watch the activity. I've seen alot of chasing and have seen some bucks locked onto the does laying in the field, they won't budge. Things are hot right now. Tonight thefront is on top of us and not much movement. As soon as it is over it will be primetime.

Get out and stay out! Its started. Saw 6 different bucks today all nose to the ground or in the air looking and scent checking. Did not see the monster I shot over yest. though. Broke my own rule for that spot and hunted the morn. there. Pushed some deer on the walk in just hoping he wasn't one of 'em.

buck are chasing here in Honeoye/Canadice area. Lots of chasing but the does just arnt horny enough yet[&:]. The bucks are starting to get the tingle in their dingle but the does arnt realy to mingle quite yet. With this really big cold front coming in...with all the garbage snow and such...makes it hard to estimate when and where the rut will really hit. be out in the woods the next week or so...as much as possible.

Anyone noticing the deer moving in these high winds? I was in a tree last night with like 30 mph winds and the deer were all over the place still moving. I almost fell outta the tree drawing back on a doe....had to stop because i was gonna fall!!![:@]oh well...the big 10pt is still running around and i have my new stand so tommorow....ill be doing my hula girl dance in front of a downed monster!!! AWWRIGHT!

I've noticed that too. It was pretty raw and blustery last night and I still saw quite a few deer. It's about 29 degrees this morning with calm winds :D[8D]. Just feels like a morning something good should happen.

well i went out this morning....and what a morning it was. Nothing came in range however...but i did see 3 bucks and 4 does....each buck on a different doe chasing them all around. One of the bucks looked injured >=/. This afternoon should be a very interesting afternoon!

Hunted this morning, and it was the first time this season that I seen and heard a buck chasing a doe!! I'd have to say that starting today till the gun opener should be great!! Stay all day in your deer stand if you can make it that long!!;)

Man im so pissed off.. i went out wed morning to hunt and found that some dick head took my stand.. its a summit viper,, i'm new to bow hunting does this happen alot? i hunt an area with houses surrounding the woodline. im looking for the bastard who took it. i was hunting for deer now im hunting forthe bastard.

Yeah it happens often enough. Especially if you're hunting an area that you shouldn't be or are encroaching on someone elses spot. They'll take it just so you wont come back.

Oh, and its definitely on. Was out this afternoon and watched a small buck chase and mount a doe twice. Not full on breeding but after two attempts, the doe laid down and tthe buck laid down right next to her. I was hoping to take her and empty her bladder, but they laid down 50 yds from my stand and didn't even get up when I climbed down at 5:10. Pretty soon we wont be seeing any bucks cause of the lock down phase. This may be it for a couple of days.

Get out there it is on. Had a small eight behind me rubbing several trees then I grunted him into my shooting lane yesturday and I grunted a 4 point across the field tonight while he was sniffing for does.

that cool to hear that its on(rut)... sorry that i got so angry before, its that im a father of three with a stay at home wife,, money is hard to come by.. you know that this is my 1st hunt with a bow and i'm learning quickly. i just have to learn to slow down when arriving to my spot.. i spoke them, then i have to wait about 2hours for them to return lol..
