Found a blood trail today and was able to track it into the thicket. This confirmed what I already knew. The blood trail just ended midway through the thicket. We searched for a couple more hours and didn't have any luck. I have the next three days off so maybe I will be able find this guy. This was a hands and knees type blood trail but there were a few areas that he bled a lot. I know he is dead, I just have to find him.

Don't give I had a friend shoot his first buck with a bow last year a 10 point it ran into a thicket and died he found it a month laster and was still aboe to mount the rack. Don't give up even after time.

That sucks. You did the right thing wait to track on a gut shot I usually give it 10 hrs. It is bad to lose a deer but at least you can be respected for working your tail off to find the deer. Most people would give up. Hang in there you will find it If there is water around you might want to look there if he is shot in the stomach he will need to drink water to sooth the pain they also will roll in the mud
