Does anyone have any recommendations for places to hunt trophy boars? I'm looking for hogs that have a strong Russian bloodline, weigh 250lbs+, and have at least 2" cutters outside their mouth. Thanks.

Theres a place here in Oklahoma called Boar ridge. They have strict russian blood lines and u can shoot a trophy hog and i think u can shoot a meat hog as well. Its located in central Oklahoma. Ive never been there, i went to BowSafari though, in Coalgate, and it was pretty good. Not a trophy hog place though. They have some nice ones, but if your lookin for a bigen, then that is not your place. Im pretty sure its boar ridge though, check it out.

hunter9022,
I've actually called Boar Ridge and they do have 100% Russian boar. Their prices are an incredible value considering the type of animal your hunting. The only thing that bothers me is that the enclosure is only 115 acres and you only can hunt from a treestand. Spot and stalk is how I prefer to hunt and sometimes the biggest boars don't begin moving until after dark, which makes sitting in a treestand non-productive. I'm glad you mentioned Bow Safari, because I was considering going there as well. But I was unsure of the quality. Since you're from Oklahoma have you heard anything about the following outfits: Cedar Ridge Hunting Ranch, Down-South Adventures, Silverado Outfitters or the Shiloh Ranch? Thanks again for your input.

I havnt heard anything about these places. Im sure ive seen them once here or there and just dont remember them. I meet a lot of people that come into the store i work at (Oklahoma Archery), so next time i here from another person, ill get some more info. However, the Backwoods show is next month, and theres A LOT of booths dedicated to just hogs and exotics. Matter of fact, the last show i went to, 3/4ths of the booths were hog and exotic booths. Plus, if u come to the show on Sunday, bring your bow. Theres an indoor shoot. Ill try and get somemore info for you though.

I know this is more than likely not what you're looking to do but it is what you're looking for. I was in Turkey (yes Europe) last March through June near Adana (south central Turkey). I hunted in the mountains at elevations from 5000-11000 MSL. Near a town called Pozonti I met a man who showed me where to boar hunt. I hunted several times there and ran into boar twice. The closest I ever got was 70 yards so I didnt have a shot but the four boar I was stalking were huge. I'd guess the largest one of the bunch was an easy 450lbs. I know no one wants to go to Turkey just to hunt boar, I was sent for my job.

Now that would be fun! A guy who comes into the store quite a bit has a brother in South Americe. Every year he goes down there with him and they bow hunt this island. The only thing that really lives on it besides birds is hogs! And i mean BIG HOGS. Im not sure what the name is of the island though. Im sure OKbowhunter doesnt want to leave the country though. But, i just remembered, if your wanting some trophy boars, why dont u just try some private land? I know your wanting pure blood russian pigs, but i have a place in Marlow that me and my uncle have hunted a long time and he has some hogs that tip the scales at over 600 pounds. Big cutters too. They have russian line in them, but they arent pure blood. The advantage of this is that theres no fee like on a ranch. Hell, half the farmers will pay you to get the pigs off there land! Just another suggestion, im still lookin for info on the other places though.

Hunter9022,
Hunting private land would be an excellent alternative to hunting a preserve. I kind of prefer to do everything myself anyway. As long as the boars are big and mean, it doesn't really matter if the boars are pure-bred Russian. I usually like just enough Russian in them that it changes the shape of their head and front shoulder section enough so that they don't resemble a domesticated pig. I don't want to feel like I'm hunting "Arnold" from Green Acres! That place in Marlow sounds perfect. HUGE boars with large cutters and enough Russian in them to make things interesting. If you have any contact info for any private land hunts(such as the Marlow location)I would really appreciate it. Thanks again.

The only place i have personally is about to loose his farm probably. But, if you want to put the effort into it, it would be worth it to drive down there. Theres a little town just outside of marlow, i cant think of the name, it starts with a B. But thats where we hunt. If u would go do to the area, even stop in at small quick trips, you can always find people that will give u leads. Lots of people do run hogs down there though. A buddy of my uncles is takin us down there. He runs them with dogs while hes on horses, then he corners them and grabs them by the legs so he can turn around and sell them to the fenced in areas. lol. I aint grabbin no cornered pig by the legs. Not my cup of tea. So, were just riden horses and then i try to shoot one with the bow. Indian style i guess you could say. But, anyplace down south like that has numerous pigs, the farmers want them off.

I looked at a state map and I bet the town you're talking about is called "Bray". I'm going to take your advice and head down there one weekend and start knocking on some doors. Thanks again.

okbh,
I dont know how far you want to go to hunt and I dont know what the % of blood line these are but I hunt at a guys place and it includes a place to stay and cooked meals and the cost is low. He has several sections to hunt and there are lots of hogs. I have seen 400 lb class hogs there. I know that one was traped that was reported to be about 750lbs but I did not see it.
If you want more info e-mail me.
