How much does your pack weigh??

Everytime I hit the woods my "day pack seems heavier. I can't be the only guy that gets out of the truck with a 20 lb pack full of stuff. From grunts and cans and scents and scent blockers and coffee and so on I'm just lugging to much.
If I was to use a fanny pack I would have to buy it from the Rosie-O-Outlet.
I am the only guy who carries so much...

4AM... Showered up fresh as a morning breeze and heading out. Only have 15 minutes to drive so the woods should be as dark as my wifes heart when I settle in...Feels good. maybe a little breezy but no rain. Hope for a steady wind.....

My total weight of my climber and backpack is about 31-32 pounds.[:-] Backpack only is about 10-11 pounds. I've tried to figure out what I could take out of my pack to lighten the load but I feel as if I need everything. Actually, its pretty sad because earlier hunters did not use nearly the amount of items that modern day hunters use.

RE: How much does your pack weigh??

I was thinking the same thing last night while I was lugging my climber and pack out of the woods. I got home and went through my pack to see what I really don't need. Come to realize I need everything in there and maybe MORE [:-][:o]!

Any suggestions for a good backpack or BIG fanny pack? I have a fanny pack I picked up at Dicks awhile ago. It's not bad. It's big with a lot of pockets and storage. But it's packed to the top and a pain in the arse to find anything in when I need it. I was thinking about using a backpack again. Only problem I had with the pack is everything just falls to the bottom and you still have to dig around for what you want. Anything new and improved out there with better organized storage?

For normal short hunts, all I carry in my pack is a small light, TP, knife, drag, gutting gloves, zip ties and some benedryl and sometimes my camera & RF.
For all day(or much longer farther from the truck ones) I have the camera for sure, paper towels, a water bottle, tail mix or granola bars, extra light, extra batteries, and sometimes toss in an extra base layer depending on temps. I would say my pack weighs maybe 2# for the small one and 6-8# tops for the fully loaded one.

my pack is SMALL. really was just a hydration pack with a littttttle extra room in it..the hyrdration pack froze and broke one season and i never got around to buying a new bladder for it..now i STUFF it full of stuff lol...THEN i attach it to my summit viper...which has the front pouch that has more stuff in it lol.....i know i broke the 30lb mark...but it doesnt bother me...went a solid 1.5 miles wed afternoon with it on my back...guess thats the perks of being 20 ;)

RE: How much does your pack weigh??

I really hate carrying alot of weight into the woods. I use a hip pouch to carry all of my stuff. I wear a tree saddle that weighs 2 pounds. In my hip pouch is:

flashlight
grunt call
bleat can
rattle bag

That's it. I clip a small compass to my zipper, and my knife stays on my belt in case I fall and need to cut my safety strap. If I don't have a tree set up in advance, I'll throw in 8 Ameristep strap on steps, which roll up nice and fit into my hip pouch. My total weight is probably less than 5 pounds, and that's everything I need to get up into the tree and hunt all day.

For all day hunts I'll throw in a bottle of water, an apple, and a snickers. Less is better sometimes. You really don't need much in the woods with you.

I have a separate "tracking and gutting" bag that I keep back at the truck. That forces me to back out and give it time if I hit one.

Way more than I would like it to. However, everything I have in there I use or need to use if I get a deer. I just can't see how I can lighten it. 20 pounds easy.

RE: How much does your pack weigh??

Good to know. I thought I was overloaded but except for a few of you guys with light weight fannys I'm about in the same boat as the rest of you. I tried going thru my pack last night to try and get rid of stuff but I need it all.
The biggest problem is remembering what pocket something is in. I think I got that about figured out now.
I sure would like a decent size fanny pack but I could fill most of them up with just my safety harness but it might be nice for my ground blinds which already have 5 gallon buckets in them to sit on.
I guess I'm stuck feeling like I'm going on an extended hiking trip.

PS.. In the 70'smy pockets worked just fine.
