Default What ya think?

I went hunting Friday morning on a tract of WMA land that I've been hunting since the first of Oct. I got out of the stand around my usual time and proceded to my truck. When i got up to the parking area there was a tan S-10 parked by my truck with a camper shell on the back. As I got closer I noticedan older grey haired fella standing at the back of the truck diggin' through some "junk" in the back.

He was soaked with sweat, no shirt on, and looked a little worn out. He was a slinder fella, not too tall, but had an arm span of what looked to be 10ft.Hardly any hair on his head andwearing glasses.I asked if he got anything and he replied, "yeah, a small buck". I asked if he needed help dragging the deer out, but he turned the offer down (when you hunt public land, you don't show ANYONE your spots).

So him and I standing there talking, he looked over into my truck and noticed my bow. He asked if he could see it and I said yes. He picks it up and says "man, this is a fancy little bow". The fella gave it a good lookin' over asking all sorts of questions. "What kind of sight is that" "How do those little fletchings stablize an arrow (Blazers). He thenlaid it back in my front seat.

We walked back over to his truck where I look into the back and theres his bow. I could tell by the green cams that it was a Bear. It was laying in the bed of the truck. The bow had more paintchipped off the bow than was left on it. Had acheap onepin sight, a home made string surpresser and an el cheap-o rest. About the only "good" thing on the bow was thelimbsaver's.

I asked, what Bear is that? He said "oh, thats just a cheap Bear Code". I asked him what the difference b/t the Code and the Element was b/c my friend was thinking about buying either one and the only thing he could see that was different is the $100 price tag.

He replied, why would he want a cheap Bear? Why not a fancy BowTech like yours or a Mathews. I was puzzled. I looked at the guy and replied, "Well, I think the newer Bears are great bows myself".

I knew where the guy was heading with his comment, but i didn't bite the bullet.

I just smiled when I seen his "stack" of arrows laying in the back of the truck and almost every one of them had dried blood on them.

After talking a few more minutes We said our goodbyes and drove off.Going down the road, I just kept the smile on my face thinking....here goes a fella thats probably never heard of 1/2 of the "today" bow equipment that we think we can't live without, but yet he has nearly 20 arrows in his truck that have the proof all over them that he is probably an incredible bow hunter.

Something has to be said about the guys that kill deer like that. It does not take fancy equipment, camo or anything else. My family from years ago probably hunted in jeans or something. Too much stock is put into owning a fancy bow, when the same can be accomplished with "lesser" equipment!

LoL.....if you asked him about scent lok, he would probably go get a zip lok bag, fart in it and then hand it to you.
