Im going to be going up to northern wi tomorrow for a bowhunt. Im staying for 3 nights. Its 200 acres. a big maple ridge that touches a 5 acre food plot. The rest is a open bog, popples, and thick hemlocks and marsh. It is a mile from the nearest public road so its way back in the woods. We have mostly late season hunted for does and baited, but thats about all we've seen: does. What are some strategies for bowhunting the bucks in the big woods? It is getting close to the rut, so maybe calling? I mostly hunt farm land around home, so im kinda lost in the northwoods. Any advice? thanks.
I will try to post an aerial photo tonight.

he owns 200 acres but its right in the middle of about6 square miles of nothing but trees, marshes and bogs. The only road through those6 miles is a snowmobile trail. So yeah its big woods.

Where are you from and where are you headed? I'm in Rapids, but head up to Brantwood where we have a small place inthe middle of the "big" woods.
Good Luck
BTW, I've had my best successes in areas actually close to the roads where during rifle season they get pounded and the deer head farther back. My guess is if there is a 5 acre food plot you are gonna see the action there at this time. Seems like the acorn crop is all but eaten up already.

Good luck on yer trip to the northwoods sounds like a good time to me. Here in western Iowa DNR has one plot of public hunting that is 2,500 acres, heard of a few bruisers taken out of there but it is so huge that alot of it never even gets touched. Tried hunting it a couple of years and saw a few good bucks but with that size of area just couldn't find the right location for alot of deer sightings. Sure was alot of fun trying though.

Im gonna throw out some corn in the 40 behind the cabin and try to get a doe too. Hopefully Ill be able to tag a dandy buck. People have shot them near there every year. It is alot of QDM property.
