Just wondering what the latest time you guys will enter the woods for a pm hunt is. I've got a time crunch tomorrow and am debating, so I wanted to see what your input is. Fora reference point, last shooting light is about 6:45 pm here right now.

That's not a fair question. It depends on the set up and who else may be in there. If you're deep in the woods I'd say be in your tree no later than 4. A field edge, maybe 5. That said, you're really screwing up your chances wandering in that late. And if I had been sitting in a tree since 2 or 3 and some yoyo comes walking by on his way to a tree at 4 or 5, well I'm ticked. You got to do what you got to do if you're pressed for time, but it limits you. If you're running late rather than pick and dilly dally your way along. Walk quickly and quietly as you can straight to the tree and get settled as fast as possible.

I couldn't get in my stand till after 4:00 today, so I didn't go. I like to be in my stand AT LEAST 2 hours before dark I prefer 3 hours. I figure that deer dilly-dally alot and they can hear for a ways off, so I don't take any chances spooking them out of the area. Remember, if they even hear something alittle different, they just won't walk in that direction. At least not where I hunt (public-land).

True, it depends...I guess I'll just do what I can and take my chances if necessary. I'm the only one that hunts this land, so don't have to worry about ticking off some other guy. I'd rather go late than not at all I suppose.

If you don;t have much time....ANY time you get there before dark works. The closer to the rut, the better every minute in the woods can be.

Hey Rookie, I hunted one of my field edge stands on saturday when I killed my buck.I arrived to my hunting ground around 4:45 and was set up and ready to go about 5:00 PM. Saw a few does and a small eight point shortly after I settled in. However, the buck I shot came in at last light. As mentioned earlier, if you are hunting a field edge it doesn't hurt to be a little late. However, any other setup I wouldn't want to arrive any later than 4:00 or so. Keep in mind, if you want to hunt at all, sometimes you have to do what you have to do. Even if that means getting to your stand later than normal.

i would say no later than 4:00 after that i would make it another time

As long as I have around 2 hours to sit on stand, I will go out. Would even go if I only had an hour and a half, if the conditions were perfect.

I might have to move this meeting that's causing the problem....
