Unbelievable. One reason I really wish there was a proficiency test for a bow license.[&:]

That's what stinks about the box stores. A similar thing happened at the Gander Mt. in Pittsburgh when I was out visiting my famiy. The archery "staff" member was setting this guy up with a bow that was way too long and way too much draw weight. When the staff guy went in the back I took the opportunity to explain to the guy what kind of trouble he was about to get himself into. He asked, "why would this guy steer me wrong." I told him it wasn't intentional, and that he probably was from the gun section. We went back to the rack and found something 10 pounds less and 2.5 inches shorter in draw. When the staff guy came back and saw the guy had a different bow in his hand he looked puzzled, and the customer just said "I like this onebetter." The staff guy then said, "let me see if I can find the archery guy, I gotta get back to the gun counter." The customer just looked at me and smiled as if to say "thanks, you just saved my arse."

I believe that NY has a separate bow test and I wish that PA had something similar. It would make me feel better for the deer and myself.

id probably give him some smartace comment about how he must be a "super hunter" because it took months of constant tuning and pracitcing to be able to shoot consistently and accuratly.;)

I think there will come a day!! CT requires you to go to 8 hours of bow classes before you can bowhunt!! The last thing they do is make you shoot 5 arrows at a deer cutout(20yds)! If they see your clueless, when shooting, you fail!! Only 1 of the 30 in my class failed, but atleast they get you heading in the right direction!!

Its good that there are new people getting out and trying to get into the sport. Its a shame there are people out there who think they know everything there is and dont need advice from anyone when truely they are completely iginorant when it comes to anything about bowhunting. Its also a shame that some people dont know anyone that is knowledgable enough to give them advice about bowhunting, and have to rely on asking the guy at Gandermountain or Dick's or any of the other large retailers that most of them have know clue about tuning, practice or bowhunting in general.

The NY bowhunter course was a well spent day in my opinion. I think all states should require it.
