Before it gets light, I make sure that I am completely set up and done moving around. This includes nocking an arrow. When that first light hits, and I can see my peep and front sight, I am ready to shoot.

Ditto what Jeremiah said. I get there really early just to make sure I'm set up by first light.

I like to be in stand and ready to go ATLEAST a half hour before legal shooting time. Which here in MN is a half hour before sunrise. It gets to be pretty early when I have to get out of bed(sometimes 4:15), but I guess that's part of bowhunting(even though my wife hates it...he, he). I get into stand, get my pack off, take my quiver off, knock an arrow and lay my bow in my lap. To me this is the most peaceful time in the woods, especially on a quiet morning. I think that it's fun just sitting there and listening to the woods wakeup. Not to mention that I would be ready for anything to happen at first light.

I'm usually in the stand, arrow nocked, bow on a holder, an hour before legal shooting time. I use one of these...it helps alot....

The reason why I am asking my dad got a ticket last year for having his arrow nocked to early. Before legal shooting hours. He shot a nice buck the first day of season and someone called the game warden. They said he was shooting before legal hours. The game warden followed him for two weeks and got him with a night vision scope. It cost him $ 75.00.

Did he actually caught shooting at an animal before shooting hour or just nocking an arrow? I don't think nocking an arrow will violet any regulations, unless it said so.

He just had his arrow nocked he did not shoot an animal. They said it is just like loading your gun before legal shooting hours. They didnt find him doing anything else wrong so they had to get him on something. In IL. there must be a law for loading your weapon to early.
