Default Ever feel like you blew a chipshot?

I sure do......

I had the PERFECT opportunity to join the Nanny Whacker club for a second time this year. I was planning on going to the new farm I have to hunt this morning but I layed down last night at 6pm just thinking I would take a nap. I just happen to wake up at about 20 after 6. Well, I guess I'll go to the spot near my house. I get dressed, get ready to walk outside and said, man I'm aweful tired, maybe I should just catch up on some sleep. I talked myself back into going, I get settled into my stand about 645ish. About 7am, I hear something running up the hill towards me, I knew it was deer, more than one. It was still dark, and it sounded like they were about 50yds out. Then everything stopped and I never heard them again. Fast forward to 720. I hear something walking and then I see a deer moving my way. At 7;20, the sun is up here. I put the binos on it, BIG Mature doe, with 2 fawns that were out of spots tagging along. She follows the trail 20yds to my left. I draw back while she's walking, she steps into an opening, I give her a mouth grunt, she stops, I ATTEMPT to put the pin on her. Set the release off and it goes right over her. My heart sank. I just couldn't quiet see the pins. The Spott Hogg is DEFINATELY going to have a light on it. I got another arrow knocked and she stopped again at about 35yds. She was behind some brush. I just let her go on her way, she got about 65yds out and blew a couple times. I guess it just wasn't supposed to happen. []

On a good note, I have been seeing ALOT of deer at the new farm, with quiet a few in bow range. Just waiting on a good buck. Here's a picture of a spike I let walk yesterday.Sorry for the pic quality it was with my phone. Hard to tell but he was about 15yds out.

Coug, it happens bud. Sounds like you got a good spot. Keep letting the littles ones walk and you'll sink your arrow in the big boy.

Yeah, I think with those easy ones we tend to not concentrate like we should and rush things. We already have the deer on the ground and are planning the posing for pics or picking out the pose for the mount. Then all of a sudden the arrow goes over or under the deer and WTF just happened. You start kicking yourself for blowing it.

Nothing is automatic in bowhunting, you still have to do it just like you practice it a thousand times in the backyard.

Yeah I was on the fourth hole about 25 yards out, grabbed the pitching wedge, had a great lie and hit behind the ball and it only went about 2 feet. So much for par on that hole....... oh you mean hunting? Yeah happened to me also. It happens. Im sure you will nail the next one........

I feel you pain, Cougars...I did it the other night. Doe at 17 yards...I've replayed it in my mind 100 times and I still don't know how I missed. I also shot right over her. Oh well, proof that it happens to the best of us. Put it behind you and make the next shot count (that's what I hope to do tonight).

Only in practise.

I've missed but they were tough shots. Twice it has happened and truth be told I was way over confident. The shot wasn't happening and I said to myself, "how far off could I be!" I missed all together. It was a good time for me to learn. Happened in the same day.

Refuse to learn from history and the mistake is bound to happen again. Doesn't even have to have involved you.

Last year I missed a great 8 at like 17 yards, broadside, looking the other way. Just missed, I can't tell you it doesn't stil bother me, but its not as bad as it was at the time.
