I think i got snookered at the pro shop yesterday...
My had lost about half my axis FMJ's. So I set off to the archery shop to get some cheaper arrows (some thing a little cheaper than the fmj's). I told the owner what my draw length/draw weight (29" draw/ 70 lbs./ 100 gr. heads) and he told me i needed 400's for proper spine.I say okay, and pickout awrap for the arrow.Icame back about 2 days laterhe charged $135for the dozen. I take them home and shoot them and isome sort offish tail/ barrel roll out of the arrows. now I look on the easton charts (on there web site) and it looks like I should have ordered them in the 340 size instead.
am I right?? If i am are these arrows now junk? I think they should be good on a lighter poundage, if so I might be able to sell them. if not then looks like they are going in the trash. HELP!!! |
RE: I think i got snookered at the pro shop yesterday...
Are they the same diameter? If not, retuning is in order, if so, spine might be an issue. Personally if he sold you the wrong arrows, I'd go back and tell him that and work something out, after all, it's mostly his fault but personally I NEVER trust a shop, I go in tell them what I want without looking for suggestions. Some shop owners don't get it.

As Rob said take them back they are way under spined for your set up.
He should either exchange them or give your money back. |
RE: I think i got snookered at the pro shop yesterday...
Take them back...Man some of these "pro shops" are getting bad.

RE: I think i got snookered at the pro shop yesterday...
yea you shoulda got 340's I just bought a new bow and got the 340 XX75 game getters for 50 bucks a dozen they cut and glued them for free. I have the same setup as you 70lbs and 29inch draw with 100 grain heads..... Id take them back and tell him he don't know what hes doing.... for crying out loud the chart for arrow selection is right on the box.

I'd take them back as well....
Did I ever tell you about the time I paid for a dozen XX-78s...When I got home I realized that I had 11.....[:@] That shop didn't last long, I never went back, it was 30 miles away, figured it might get ugly... |
RE: I think i got snookered at the pro shop yesterday...
No way should he have sold you 400s. No way!

RE: I think i got snookered at the pro shop yesterday...
I just loaned a buddy of mine an old bow to get him into the game on bowhunting and at the pro shop they tried selling him some bottom of the line sights and rest that would have come out to about 90 some odd dollars. He didnt but them and went to Walmart and got the exact same ones for under 40 bucks.Seems like they just wanted to take advantage of him since he is new to the sport.

YUP, you got the wrong arrows... especially if you shoot fixed broadheads. Don't rely on anyone. Use this guys charts, they're right.

RE: I think i got snookered at the pro shop yesterday...
I'd give him a call & explain that you would like to trade the arrows for the correct ones. But what gets me is the price. I thought you said you wanted cheaper arrows or are the FMJ's that much more?

RE: I think i got snookered at the pro shop yesterday...
ummm I shoot a 29 in draw 70lb Trykon and I use Beman 340's and they are some of the most accurate arrows i've ever shot, i've never shot closer groups than I have with that setup

RE: I think i got snookered at the pro shop yesterday...
Im not one to tout a business, especially places likeWal Mart orBass Pro,but if you ever pass through Oklahoma City, "Oklahoma Archery" is an excellent shop in my opinion. When I went in about4 years ago to get my first bow, I knew nothing and it was fairly obvious. They could have taken serious advantage of my lack of knowledge, but they didn't. I had told them that I was not looking to spend a fortune, so they worked with my budget and gave me the best quality that I could afford, even threw in a few freebies. I ended up with a great setup (Martin Cougar 2000, Whisker Biscuit Deluxe, Impact Archery 3 pin sight, hunting and practice quivers, full set up of the bow,12 Carbon Excell arrows (spined correctly I might add), a bag target, and about an hour of free instruction forjust over $500. You guys know all to well how fast the little things add up. After a little practice that first year I was getting 5-6 inch groups at 40 yds, and never had to make any major adjustments after their initial setup. Its pretty fast too for not being a parallel limb, I guesstimate in the 280-290 range. My neighbor shoots a Switchback and it seems to keep up with that. Your not going to get bargain basement prices, but then again your not going get ripped off or buy crap either. These guys are hunters that really love to share their knowledge and they value their customers, so they provide great service. Great folks. Anyway I just wanted to throw this in. Best of luck to you guys this season.
