Wish me luck....this is the it! (empty handed but a good night)
Well fellas...I'm heading out the door to make my 40 mile commute to my favorite property. I'm feeling lucky. I think I have pin pointed one of the bucks' travel routes. I'll have pics when I get back.;):D

RE: Wish me luck....this is the it!
Well, just got back in. Boy...it was windy this evening.
I saw a gang of hens and one had a nice beard.:D About 6:00 I had a doe and a spike come in about 40 yards. The doe left but the spike hung around for a while eating acorns. Clouds started rolling in around 6:45 and I climb down the tree without spooking him. I pack up in the rain and decide to stalk him. I get about 18 yards or so from him and then we have a staring contest. I get tired of the "frozen" stance and just stand up. Of course, he takes off. Free education on me tonight. |

I'm starting to wonder about some of these deer or even my scent control. The doe I got last week was downwind from me. This little spike tonight was downwind of me with gusty constant winds. Guess I'm doing something right or they're not totally with it.
Theres a couple big boys in there I'm after. They are sneaky but I'll get 'em.:) |
RE: Wish me luck....this is the it!
You should try hunting here duc, I think the deer have deviated septums! A buddy of mine was out for the early muzzle season today in blue jeans and a camouflaged sweatshirt. This is the first time he has ever gone muzzle loading. After sitting in his stand for an "hour or so" he lit up one of his stogies since he had not seen anything. He said 10 minutes later a doe and six or seven yearlings walked in to 15 yards. He shot the doe. When he called me he said he couldn't understand it. He was doing everything wrong and the deer still showed up. Can't explain it myself. All I have to do is think about farting and the deer take off.

Sorry you didn't get the one you're after. It's always to good to hear from a fellow Virginian, though. Keep at it and good luck.
