Jeff,

At the place where my father and I hunt, I have seen 3 deer in 5 years die this way, even without being wounded, and have heard of quite a few others around here and there. Usually it is the young ones that don't quite make the jump, and come down with one leg between the top two wires. There will usually be a deep hole in the sand where they have pawed the ground out. Sometimes the coyotes find them while they are still alive.

We freed one last year, but it had struggled too hard and dislocated his hip hanging there. Once he was free we left him for awhile hoping he would get better, but after a couple hours it was obvious he wouldn't make it so we put him down. I don't like to see it but there is really nothing to be done about it.

Mortality by man comes in many different fashions. Many we never think about untill we stumble across them.

That must have been tough to look at especially as slow as it probably was until you were able to get a good look at what exactly the deal was.

It's a cruel world we live in and nothing and no oneis spared it's wrath when it's their "time".

I too (like most) have seen my share of the strange and down right brutal ways mother nature and man collide.

That truly is a sad pict but not as sad as the image that I have carried in my mind for over 25 years. Out hunting one day came up on a doe that was "propped" up against a tree. Somebody found her dead and put her against a tree. Her cause of death.........starvation. That broke my heart to see a deer that had starved to death. This pict that was posted here, is now the second worse image in my head. Tough break for you to have to see it first hand. Hang tough and it will get better.

Where was the deer hit to begin with? Or did I miss that part?

I really hate to see that kind of thing, but it happens probably more than we care to think.

Try a couple zip ties on a few sections of fence, it will give the deer an easy place to cross and also give you a great place to set up!
