RE: Deer stolen ?

RE: Deer stolen ?
YUP, my brother and his gang had 3 stolen from their meat poll one year. About 2 AM one of the guys thought he heard a vehicle start up. He poked his head out the door but saw nothing. In the morning they walked out to find the day before's kill all gone, 2 bucks and a doe. The bad thing, 3 tags were gone too. In a one buck state and maybe a management doe permit that really sucks. The wardens of course wouldn't issue them another tag. Said they had no way of knowing. Reasonable assumption, but it really sucked. Their camp is at the intersection of a couple county roads. The deer were hung 75 yards off the intersection behind the camp building. They since have built a lockable meat shed.

RE: Deer stolen ?
Can't imagine wanting a deer badly enough to takes someones. It like a poached deer. You sure can't brag about it unless all your friends are thieves and scofflaws..
I did shoot a deer one year and went back to the truck to dump off my stand and stuff. Went back in an hour later and someone was tracking my deer. I said thanks but I will take it from here..What were his intentions?? |
RE: Deer stolen ?
I had one stolen a few years ago. I shot a nice heavy 10pt. Made good shot, lots of blood, justbefore dark. Didnt want to push him so I went out the next morning. Found his body 100 yards from my stand. No Head. Someone must have seen me or got on the blood walking out of the woods. This was on public land. Needless to say I have never gone back. Unfortunately, this happens a lot in PA. Every year you will hear of fights during gun season, I shot the deer, no i shot the deer, blah blah blah. SUCKS! if you ask me.

RE: Deer stolen ?
I was hunting in Missouri once when a some young ladys came into are camp at night to ask us if we would help one of them find her deer. We did and tracking it down we came up on a gut pile no deer it was draged out to the road and gone. It was her first bow kill she almost broke down and cryed. We thought it may of been some coon hunter that came up on it and took it because we had heard some dogs running earlyer in the evening.

RE: Deer stolen ?
I had a doe stolen last year hunting on public land. Shot at 3:15, waited 30 min, then got down checked for blood. Found blood and then took my stnad to the truck. I got back to the blood trail about 4:15, tracked for 30 min right to the back of a pickup truck. My deer still had my arrow in it. Make a long story short i didn't get my deer or my arrow. The deer ran through the woods to the next road over and piled up about 10 ft from a parking area to get into the public hunting area. The best i can tell is the guy pulled in to go hunting and walked 10 ft and said to himself.. that was easy!

RE: Deer stolen ?
My boyfriend shot a doe this season at about 20 yards and hit her right in the heart and she fell. He waited about 20 minutes before he got out of his stand to go gut her. He walked over to her wiggled the arrow and sat his backpack on her and left to go get help dragging her out. He came back and no deer...the backpack was there and all his stuff....but no deer. Weird..

RE: Deer stolen ?
Sasquatch! That is the only explination:D I think that some of these probably went by another hunter and he didn't see the first hole and shot it again and it happened to fall right in front of them. Honestly, who would take someone elses deer, that is just weird.....

Honestly, who would take someone elses deer, that is just weird..... I was rifle hunting whitetails with a friend. I drove toward his stand and he shot a decent buck. Dropped right where he shot it. He field dressed it (it's how I first learned) and then we noticed that there were three holes: an entrance and an exit that fit with how he shot (angle, side, placement, etc.) and then another chest shot. It was further back, probably clipped a lung. He had no idea that it was wounded when it approached his stand. He had no way of knowing who had first shot it or even if they were tracking it. We had not heard any gunfire that morning that sounded close enough to be of interest but echoes can be deceiving. I don't think he stole anyone's deer. But there may well be someone out there telling a "stolen" deer story about that buck. |
RE: Deer stolen ?
If I ever shoot a Deer and someone else steals or claims it there will be hell to pay...I will have them arrested or get into a good fight! If I ever found someone else's deer I would rather try to find out who shoot it than to take it and claim it as my own!
I have shot Deer on our Farm....went back to get help and the Tractor to haul it out or have field dressed it then went to get the Tractor,if I would come back and someone was hauling it off or claiming it as their own someone is going to need an ambulance before it was all over! [:@] From some of the above post it sounds like someone had heard or seen the other person shoot the deer and then waited til they left to go get help or a vehicle to haul it out and then purposely stole the deer.....how could you feel proud about stealing another persons deer? |

RE: Deer stolen ?
Years ago there was an elderly couple hunting. The man shot a Deer, drug it up to the road.He started having a Heart Attack, his wife couldn't get him in the Pickup. So she drives up to the House to call an Ambulance.Gets back there is her Husband dead and the Deer is gone.
That was here in Missouri, you talking about Heartless [:@] big rockpile |
RE: Deer stolen ?
I shot a nice buck when I was young, which was obviously mortally wounded. It ran close to another one of
our hunters and onto some other people's property. We heard some shooting close to that time. Of course, when we caught up with them later they denied it. To me there is a difference between stealing a dead deer and killing a wounded deer that wanders on your property. The first is a mortal sin, but the second presents a lot of gray areas. |

I wish they could have caught that piece of crap human being. Im so disgusted right now over reading that. I want to knock the crap out of people like that. [:@] |
RE: Deer stolen ?
Now I have had a doe taken from me. I shot a nice doe and went to get help tracking her. Once we got back on her trail and followed a good blood trail towards the road we ended up at a gut pile just off the road. That sucked.

RE: Deer stolen ?
on my first year hunting i made a shot on a nice buck 80 yards out with a shotgun
i saw it go down and there is a logging trail that runs close to it so i start down the trail in my blazer and it turns in to a path that looked like a dozer went down it and i bottomed out well i had to choices it was mid Nov and about 35 degrees and heading to go to the tens for the night. i can go it the deer which i know is deer saw it hit the ground good shot with a 12ga slug .and gut it and get back to the blazer about dark. then make the 2 1/2 mile walk to the closes open store or the 5 five mile trip to the house if it is closed. which is more likely ti will be closed by the time i walk two miles . now this is in the middle of a nat. park that isdead after dark or at lease the area i was in the middle of thousands of acres of woods . So i figure i will walk out not much of achance some one sees my blazer to far back in the woods . and call my dad to come get me then blazer n stuck and get my first kill at the age of 18 a nice at least 8 point buck from what i could see from the scope. So i walk the 2 miles to the store call my dad . No answer so i figure i have another 3 miles to the house. A nice fellow hunter gave me arider out of his way to my house . Which mind you is in KY and a 3 mile drive there takes 20 Min's each way or more . So on the way i tell him my bad day . He drops me at my door . I get my dad about two ours later head back . I get the blazer unstuck and head for the deer . well no deer i saw the blood pool no guts thought and noticed some small 4X4 tracks by the pool . still do not know how they drive around my blazer since it was right on a cliff and a 90 degree wall of dirt . That was the only deer i got a sot on till this year and the only one i saw my first year hunting . If i ever see that guy again i will go to prison for life. |
RE: Deer stolen ?
dvallliere......No I wasn't refering to the deer your friend had shot...it sounds like the first person that shot it hadn't mortally wounded it and your friend definetly did.

RE: Deer stolen ?
A few years ago I was hunting a small patch of woods between two larger tracts of land that I did not have permission to hunt on. I skewered a small 7 pt that afternoon and it ran into the larger tract. After a long and cautious blood trail across the land I did not have permission to hunt on (I could never find out who's land it was, so technically I never asked.), I found my buck. He had died about 60 yds from a county road. I looked him over real good and marked the spot on the road. I walked back and got my stand and went back to my truck. I drove around to the spot I had marked and found where the buck had been drug to the road and loaded in a truck. I just figured it was payback for being on the person's land without permission...lol.

I haven't had one directly stolen, but I felt like it last year when I found a gut pile after a short blood trail in the center of my property.

RE: Deer stolen ?

RE: Deer stolen ?
Legally not ethically is it a finders keepers situation????? I'm really not sure if the deer belongs to the guy who shot it or the guy in possession of it.
I personally don't want anyones deer even the guys who drop by with one as a gift. They just want the rack. If I shoot a deer it gets butchered and given away if I have all I can use. Just can't justify killing it unless it gets used. |
RE: Deer stolen ?
I have seen this more than once. I remember when I was still pretty young (15 or 16) hunting with my Dad and uncles. Shot a doe on a ridge and she ran / tumbled down the ridge. By the time we go to the bottom, two guys were standing there claiming they shot her. (No shots, though.) We just let it go. My Dad always said no dear is worth some idiot turning a gun on you.

RE: Deer stolen ?
Unfortunatley the biggest buck of my life (to this date) was stolen. I was hunting an area that was open to hunters with permits (public university grounds) and I shot a very heavy racked buck. I thought I had hit him a little too far back and decided to wait an hour before getting out of my tree. I was hunting about 40 yards from the edge of a harvested bean field but the buck ran the opposite way of the bean field. During my walk in in the morning I didn't hear anyone or see any vehicles so I assumed there wasn't anyone else hunting near me. About 30 minutes into my wait I heard a truck door slam out in the bean field. After an hour I started tracking the blood and found that the buck did a "U" turn and ran into the wide-open bean field. The blood trail just ended and I found no trace of the deer even though I spent two days looking. About 7 years later I was at a Super Bowl party and this guy tells me he knows a guy that saw a huge buck just "tip" over in the bean field in the U grounds. He was on his way home from work. I described the deer to him and this guy said he saw the mount and it was my deer. He promised me he would talk to the guy that picked up the deer and try to get it back for me. I told him I would cover the taxidermy costs. I never heard from him or could find him again. If by chance he is reading this I still would like my deer even though it has been 16 years!!!
