5th hunt today got shut down
#1

i went on my 5th hunt of the year today got in the stand early about 45min beforesunrise
i hear some movement around me but to dark.
About 2 hours into my hunt i hear a chainsaw start up close i would say with in 200 yards or so
so i figure i am screwed for the day . but i stayed in the stand anyway . an hour later i hear either a stump grinder or something like someone grading a packed gravel road sounded like a jet engine .it came from the soybean field by where my stand is so i think they were removing some trees so when they cut the beans and tilled the land they could till where the trees were.
So i got down and walkedabout 300 yards deeper into the woods i hunt.
I got to a creek i had never seen before and saw a nice deer spoke on the other side.
Then walked out and left dam tree cutters lol i did see a big fresh mound of deer poo . which was a good sign for me .
i hopeto get out friday . Were going to get alot of bad rain and thunderstorms tomorrow and tomorrow night.
will that mean there be moving more friday if it is bad all day tomorrow

I experienced the same thing last year-Loggers Cutting trees, loading logs & heavy equipt.& then farmer started picking corn in the field near the end of the timber I am hunting. I stuck it out & had a nice 9 point walk by about an hour b/4 dark & all the camotion going on-I let him pass. Farmer took him during shotgun & was real happy I had let him go.
I have Bowhuted out West in the Mountains & had Mule Deer be around where they are logging all the time. They just get used to it.

Sometimes when a chain saw starts up that will bring deer running as they know that logging is about to commence, along with fresh tree tops to munch on. Sort of like a new restaurant opening up with free steaks. Personally I have seen loggers within sight, and also at the same time have seen deer moving without acting the least bit spooked. In the PA mountains that I hunt logging activity brings deer around for miles. All depends on your area I guess, and what happens when machinery starts up. Will it provide fresh food for the deer?
If so don't be so quick to leave.

If you hear something in the dark, do a short rattling sequence just to keep whatever it is close. As soon as it becomes light enough to see rattle again. If its just out of sight it might come to investigate. Its always worth a shot, rather than just letting it go, next time you could try the pre-dawn rattle.
