First Bowkill of '07
#1
Well, I let the first arrow of 007 fly last night and I'm happy to report that I am 1-for-1. I hunt a pinch point between a thin strip of heavy cover and the edge of a pond. This deer was actually standing in the pond when I shot, and she bounded thru the water before reaching the other side and going down within sight.
This deer was taken with a fairly sharp quartering away angle at about 25 yards, but I put it right in the sweet spot. I shoot a Mathews Q1 set at 63#, Easton Carbon Excel 400 arrows and 100-grain Rage 3-blade. I was very impressed with the performance of the Rage. I did not get a full pass thru (hopefully visible in the pics), but the arrow was sticking halfway out just in front of the off-side shoulder.
Meat in the freezer! Pike County next week! Wisconsin rut the week after that! I'm off to a good start!
