RE: Deer hit, tracking suggestions. Update, NOT GOOD
heres my guesstamation...
lots of blood...clots...nothing. you likely knicked the top of the liver & and the stomach...caught one lung..perhaps hard, perhaps just clipping it. The deer was likely still alive when you came back so youbumped him unknowingly, but will not run far. think 200-300 yards. he will not likely climb hills, and would try to get to more 'safe' cover to get to. the arrow is still in him (i assume) that means he keeps moving, bed, get up, bed, get up. it makes the job more difficult but still...he is going to where is 'safe' and will certainly be dead by now. have to find that 'safe' area.

RE: Deer hit, tracking suggestions.
Looks like alot of blood. If the deer has been bleeding like that the whole way it is dead somewhere. Keep at it. Also, look for tracks, drag marks, anything that will tell you which way the deer went. Also, if the deer has only gone 100-200 yards keep faith. I have tracked deer for 600 yards and found them. Remember to get on your hands and knees and look at every centimeter of ground. I once heart shot a deer that did not bleed. I had to track it about 200 yards on my hands and knees, took several hours. It was tough, but I found him. Good luck.

That deer is dead. Sounds like you (or something) bumped him but he shouldnt go too far. Follow the path of least resistence in line with the trail you have and you should pick up more blood.
Best of luck!
