I think you bumped the deer after coming back to look for him, that blood in the pic is blood that is clotting, but I agree that he is dead you just have to find him,if you don't find him look for the buzzards and crows they will find him for you,I know you don't want to hear that, but at least if you find him that way it will give you some piece of mind and you can still salvage the antlers.

if struck on a hillside ,it willsidehill downward,,will not excert muchenergy escaping uphill,, and then somehow they always head for nearest water...

look for blood even a small telltale speck back from the point of shot placement. note that travel.

Been there, done that. I've had a similar hit several times over the years, with good and bad outcomes. Shot a doe 10yds quartering to about 12yrs ago....I knew I got only one lung... I could hear her hucking up blood shortly after I shot. I knew I had her. I waited 4 hours to track her, and never even went in her direction leaving my stand. She went about 75yds on her initial run, and there was 6 spots that looked about like yours...but pink and bubbly....she's right there I knew it. Nope....last blood the 6 of us found was 200yds away going up a ridge 6 hours later. Incredible. I'm hoping and praying for the best for you, don't give up. He's dead I'm sure....its just how far and which way did he go. One thing I've learned....never underestimate a deers will to live--and always expect the unexpected. Good luck, keep us posted.

IdK wat to tell otehr then wait unless tehre is some-1 or something that might take teh animal. don't rush thing 1st off if he is dead he will b there in 10 hours. but if it was me i would say go track him in about 3 hours. i shot a does this weeekend and i hit her a litle far back and she only made it about 100 yards so if it is a nice buck i'd let him lay for a little while

TRANSLATION: I dont know what to tell you other than wait, unless there is something or someone that might take the animal. First off, dont rush it, if he is dead he will be there in 10 hours. But, if it was me I would say go track him in about three hours. I shot a doe this weekend and hit her a little far back, she only made it a hundred yards. So, if it's a nice buck I'd let him lay for a while.

Your welcome:D
