New Found Freedom (Injury update)
Well I'm out of my cast for a week now. Bob (GR8) sent me his walking boot and I thoroughly enjoyed it while working around the garage. I've worn it a couple times since.
I don't however where it hunting. In my rubber boots, I have support and I can actually walk without crutches. I shouldn't but I can. Yesterday I walked the 1/4 mile into my stand in the dark. It was difficult and slow (which is good) but tiresome. When we left the stand I radioed Kurt and said if he gets back to the truck, grab my crutches and meet me. He made it half way to my stand before I made it halfway out. I was tired.
Last night I got to thinking about it and I know this is nothing new and it's been discussed many times across these boards.....
I wonder if I can use the mountain bike. It's a field access road I'm on....why not. I tried it last night and sure enough, no pull on the Achilles, no pull on my incision or scar tissue and it's quick, quiet and clean.
This morning I mountain biked into and out of my stand without incident. I know will be able to hunt alone when Kurt goes home and there will be almost no days when I won't get afield from now to the end of the season. We are headed out now.....good luck guys.
When I write my field journal this weekend I will include photos and expound on the issue. Thanks all, see you after dark.
