Well said David!

I can kill a another deer another day...shoot, they would just help prolong my season . Family and friends are a different issue but I am not dying for a buck of any size, period. Further I am not killing anyone that steals a deer from me. I might hurt them a little if the opportunity arose but I'm not killing anyone over a stinking ungulate! It isn't worth it on either end. Think about it....your dead for a long time.

Besides I'm always bringing a bow to a gun fight...those wars are hard to win, just ask Geronimo.

eastwood,

Whether my friend was lying to me or not, I have no way of knowing.
But I was there in 94', the day my uncle and cousin had their run in.
It sounded like a war zone.
Maybe those jokers shot at another deer and thought the one laying in the field my cousin was dressing was theirs. Who knows ?
But I know for a fact my uncle and cousin do not lie.
I started to tell this story last year but didn't because I figured there might be some doubting Thomases like you.
But then I decided I don't care if I'm believed or not.
Believe what you want.
Maybe, reality will set in someday if it happens to you.
People are so corrupt these days that anything is possible.
You must look at the world through rose colored glasses.
I see the world as it is. EVIL!
Most hunters are true blue but...
There are thieves, murderers, child molesters, and rapists who also love to hunt.
There is a famous deer hunter that has been mentioned on this Bowhunting Forum many times.
Many guys on here admire him as a great hunter and brag on the big bucks he has taken.
I know for a fact, he is a Pedofile many times over and can't believe no one on here knows it.
Nothing on the face of the earth worse than a child molester, imo.
But maybe you think that's a lie too.

A friend of myn was bow hunting and had 8 guys on 4 wheelers call him down out of his tree, and threatened him with a pistol. They told him to get off of his hunting ground or he'd shoot him. When my friend asked him what his name was he said he was some guy, but he was lying because my friend knew the guy that he said he was. Anyways, they wouldn't even let him go back up and get his stuff. He called the guy that owned the ground and asked who else had permission to hunt there and he said nobody. The next morning me, him and 4 other guy went out there. Luckly they had not taken any of his things. I think he did the right thing by walking away.
Another story is about another one of my friends who was run off by a guy that said it was his hunting ground and told him to never come back. My friend simply waited for the guy to leave, climbed back in his tree, hunted the rest of the night, took a pi$$ on two nice scrapes as he left, and never went back.
As for me, if I was confronted by guys trying to take my deer, I would simply stand up, tell them that there might be more of them, but I could take out at least 3 of them, and then tell them to leave. If they didn't well, I'm not sure what I would do, but hopefully nobody would be hurt to bad.

Touchy topic!! I have never heard of it happening either, but I am sure it does happen. Heck, criminals will steal just about anything else, so why not your most recent kill.

Being that he was surprised, the safest and best thing to do would be to back off and let them take it, then go call jeremiahjacobs, file a report and let him hunt the varmits down..

As to what I would do... I would have let them leave with it, NO chunk of meat or fine rack is worth losing or taking a life over. BUT, no one steals from deerdust and gets away with it.. At some point, some place, I would find them again, and I give you my word they would not steal from me again...

The best of luck in all your hunting endeavors!!!

God Bless,
Dave

First, if a guy had a gun pointed at me I would back off. But if he doesn't then I'm putting up a fight. I'm not a huge guy, but won some state and national titles in wrestling and would be second nature to take a guy down.

I don't think that anything in the world would make me more furious than another person tresspassing on the land I was hunting and pointing a gun at me to take my deer. Only thing that would piss me off more is if somebody did that to my mother.

If somebody were to pont a gun at me, i'd get out of there, get into my truck, find their vehicle, and disable it. With me smoking as much as I would be, it shouldn't take too long.

This must be a big city thing, or public hunting thing, because I couldn't ever see anything like that happening around here on private land. Something like this would be very rare, unless you were hunting around other people. And 2 groups rifle hunting the same area, would never happen with me. I won't hunt with people I don't know. A rifle is too dangerous of a weapon for an uneducated person.

Rob,

I did the majority of my hunting in sullivan county, pa. sgl 13 to be exact. Also lake nockamixin, west chester county and bedford. the other state i hunted in was california. central california .

Sag,
Im a realist and I think in terms of what is logical and whats not logical. Think about it like this. Your dressing a deer, someone comes along and says, “get away from my deer!” you get up and leave without argument. Now this guy has to drag the deer out. He is going to be moving much slower now that he is dragging the extra weight. He either lives in the area or he is going to his vehicle. Whats to stop you from following him, even if you have to follow him in stealthy Rambo mode. We all know how to “walk when hes walking and stop walking when he stops walking.” Besides, hes going to be puling an animal carcass and the thrashing around is going to cause much more noise than you trying to keep the angle so he doesn’t see you. Its like going into walmart and grabbing 4 or 5 bowling balls and trying to make a run for it! It just doesn’t make sense! Why not just wait until dark and steal a carcass from a meat pole?

Please, someone show me a credible source as to where or when this has ever happened. Suspect steals harvested deer from victim at gun point while afield. Just one credible source and I will bow down to Sag and eat my words.

Would I fight yup you bet. Deadly force NO WAY!!!!!!! Most of the time they are just bluffing and if you show you are not going to leave and make it easy for them they usually will back down. I really don't thing anyone would kill anyone over a deer even a monster if it meant life in prison.

You'd fight over a $25.00 backpack but not a deer that you have at least $100.00 invested in?

I was hunting on the first day of bowseason when I was 16 and I shot a huge 8 point buck at 25 yards. The shot was great, I couldn't have placed it any better, but it wasn't a passthorugh. The buck crashed through the woods and I gave it some time to expire, then took up the trail which was sparse due to the arrow not passing through. Finaly I tracked the buck to a small opening, and a man was standing by my buck, it would have been my second bow kill and my first good buck. The man said that this was his buck and that I should just walk away. I said that it was mine as I saw my arrow sticking plainly straight up about 8 inches out of the deer and showed him I had 5 other arrows exacly like that arrow in my quiver, and the bloodtrail led back to my stand. The man then started arguing with me and threatining me. So I backed off and went home. I felt sick and didn't want to hunt anymore. All I wanted was my buck. I worked so hard for that deer, practiced every day all summer, scouted out my spot and even worked all summer to earn the money to buy my bow and the stand. Even now, it would have been my best one. Later that season, my stand that I had worked all summer to buy, was stolen. It still makes me mad, but there isn't anything I can do about it now. When I was 16 I didn't want to get into a fight with someone older, and bigger than me while we were both alone and deep in the woods. But nowadays, I still wouldn't fight over a deer, my gun or bow is a different story, but I would disable someone's vehicle.
