Date/time: November 12, 2002 5:05 PM
Score: 11 point 137 3/8 green 130 7/8 after deductions
Weight: 175 lb.
State: MO
County: Scotland
Equipment: Diamond Hornet 70 LB 30 in draw, beman ics hunter 340. 100 grain spitfire broadhead.
Story: my uncle and I hunt alot together and have been videotaping for the past 3 years. We have an agreement to only shoot mature bucks and does. My uncle was taping and I was the "shooter". At about 4:30 PM I noticed a buck chasing a doe through the woods. The buck appeared to be a decent 2.5 yr/old 8 pointer. Both deer went right under the cameraman’s treestand. They turned broadside to me at 15 yards. I decided to pass on the shot because I wanted my first buck with a bow to be a wall hanger. The 2 deer ran off and then stopped the doe squatted and the buck climbed on her. As soon as he was on top she took off again. My uncle was able to catch all this on video. This is the largest deer I’ve ever passed on so after a few minutes I was wondering if I had made the right decision. At about 5:00 PM I noticed a buck coming in where the other 2 had ran off he was smelling the hot does trail. The buck was a shooter he walked in and around the cameraman’s tree and then past it (in order for me to get a good shot the deer would have to either face the cameraman or be walking away well the deer turned back to the camera and was 15 yards from me (5 yards from the camera) I pulled the diamond hornet back and let the beman ICS tipped with the spitfire 100grain broadhead fly. the shot looked high and forward. we waited until 8:00 AM the next morning to track the deer he was an 11 point beauty that ran approx. 120 yards the shot was high on the shoulder but thankfully by waiting we were able to recover the deer. This is our first buck on video and my first buck with a bow.
