I think for most people the problem is the "zoo" animal mentality. I know it is for me. Shooting lions, zebras, elephants, giraffes, etc. seems "sacriligious" because we've only associated these animals with zoos, documentories, plush toys, and cartoons. We have too much emotional investment in these animals. I don't have a problem with other people doing it. I know a few that have. It just doesn't appeal to me. BUT the way BroadsideAdventuresdescribes it, it does sound challenging and exciting. I'd love to own some tusks too. It's a challenge few bowman have accomplished and it sounds like he took it seriously and worked hard to achieve it. Congratulations on the effort and success.

Here is a charge that we caught with our still camera. He is about 10 yards, notice I am still holding firm with my bow. What was I thinking, like my arrow would do anything at this angle. My wife say's its a great pictures but its not one of the smartest things I've done.

Congrats on the kill. Must have been really nerve racking being that close to such a huge animal with nothing but an arrow.

I don't know why some choose to ridicule this guy. I personally wouldn't go on an african hunt (too much $$$ for me) but don'tquestion or mock his choice to do so. The pursuit of an animal that can and commonly do kill the people hunting them is certainly worthy of calling a "hunt" in my opinion. Quick research shows 500+ people are killed by elephants a year........

I was watching Jim Shockey when he was on his elephant hunt (muzzleloader). That show was awesome and if you didn't think they were hunting then I don't understand what hunting is. They stalked for days through the brush, had some charges and, in the end, a young bull charged them and did not back off. The PH stood his ground and put the animal down at about 20yds (or so it looked to me). One of the ballsiest things I have ever seen. Even though Shockey didn't shoot the animal he put his tag on it becaude that was right and ethical. An awesome elephant hunt!

I saw that also. It was a great show. Jim got out of the way though. :DI also saw the Hippo charge on Jim's show.
