ORIGINAL: Greg / MO

I would think that because it's an unnatural scent in the woods right now... And a doe-in-heat smell will raise the alarm on another doe no matter what time of year it is; the last place they want to be is in the company of a hot doe that's gonna have every buck in the county bothering them.
Isn’t that the point though? Just translate “them” for “me” (the guy with a bottle of doe piss) and I’ve got the perfect scenario? I mean, call me crazy, but I'd love to have every buck in the county bothering me!

I'm not trying to contradict you, but what you're saying doesn't jive.

Actually KP what he is saying makes perfect sense. If you put out doe in estrous urine at the wrong time or premature you will be alarming deer, not luring deer. Hell I've seen bottled doe urine spook does during the time when you should use it. They know!

You do what you want though, it doesn't effect me or my deer.

Yeah, thanks rob, I will do what I want...

What he said was, estrous doe piss would spoke the does, and implied that they wouldn’t want to be the victims of mistaken identity (Hot doe vs. not hot doe), and he further explained that this was due to every buck in the county being all over them.

So, unless I’m stupid, there is a contradiction. Because, if the reason that it would spoke a doe is because it would get a buck all fired-up, it worked on the buck. I mean, what is the difference between that particular doe yesterday, and today? The smell of the estrus piss! And if he/they are going to be all over her, why not be all over me, or my little corner of the forest anyway?

Further, it is my opinion, based on my experience that this same piss will also spoke a doe into leaving in a hurry no matter what time of year it is, if she is not in heat, and that could be due to her having just conceived. Does what you and Greg are saying mean that there is really only a short window of opportunity to use estrous piss? If so I agree if you’re hunting doe, but not bucks. From what I’ve seen, it never offends a buck, very similar to the sight of a hot lady never offends me or you; we’re stupid like that.

It is my opinion that the estrus piss should be used early and here is why. If you had 100 doe in the forest and ten hunters, and the hunters waited until they knew the doe were hot, you would then have 110 smells for these bucks to choose from. Keeping in mind that 100 of them are from real doe that walk around at night and make noise and can be followed. You now have a 1 in 110 chance that a buck is going to become interested in your scent. If only one hunter were to put the piss out one day early, I’m pretty sure that some bucks would have come by for a sniff.

Easiest buck I ever killed was the opening day of my first ever bow hunt. The night before I broke a bunch of rules. I walked into my stand location with regular shoes on and poured a bottle of doe piss on the ground. The next morning the buck I killed had eight nice points and was practically drawing the bow back for me.

I think that the fake stuff becomes less effective during the chase, or at least no more effective than in the early season. And if we were to all “follow the rules” wouldn’t we just be predictable, and therefore avoidable?
