Looks like Jersey is headed for trouble :blue tongue/pics

Well I was about to leave for work this morning and out of the corner of my eye I caught this guy taking a long drinkin my driveway by our small pond. He took a few steps away from the pond and layed down. At this point I got excited to think a young buck enjoyed our pond and wanted to hang out for a while......in no sooner than 30 seconds he put his head on the grass like a tired puppy dog. I snapped a few shots and then tried to walk up on him. When I got about 30 yds or so he got up and stumbled across the field into the woods.....tail down zig zagging like he was hit with an arrow.......only he definately wasn't.
This is really disheartening. There has been at least 30 or more deer found by campers and fishermannear lakes and streams.( according to NJ fish and game website). They strongly advise to not eat the meat of infected animals......even though "blue tongue" doesn't affect humans. So why bother hunting? I wouln't wan't to hunt and kill a deer that I couldn't eat.(given you killed one within the early stages of the disease, and wasn't showing any signs)
Once again it needs to get cold fast to kill off the damn insects.....apparently a small fly or something causes this.
I didn't check to see if the deer died yet. I didn't wan't to push it across the road and possibly hit a car. By the way he looked he'll probably expire shortly.
I pray things change for the better around here soon.

That's sad. He's otherwise a helathy looking animal....especially fora young buck.
I'm sure we're gonna hear a LOT about this disease as the seasons progress.

Momma Nature is a cold woman indeed. Which is why us hunters play such a CRITICAL role in wildlife management. The thing that eludes the anti hunting community is the fact that the HUNTERS are WHY the animals are around in the first place.

Let's all pray for a cold snap!
