My 2006 mount
Hello all,
It's been a while. Have had alot on the schedule. This is my 2006 bow killfrom Ft Riley, KS. Harvested the deer on the 19th of October.Arrived home from Iraq on the 26th of September 06 looking forward to the upcoming season as the 05 season was lost to the desert. Little bit about the hunt. Dad had come from IL to visit. Never hunted. Never been in the woods on a deer hunt. Gave him a block of instructions the night before on using the climber via the telephone pole in the back yard. I didn't have a warm feeling after watching him struggle up the pole but he insisted that all would be well. The next morning we make the mile treck to the area we would be hunting. Found the trees we would be climbing set up the climber for him and he was off and climbing. I locked on my tree and hit the twenty foot mark. Fifteen minutes later he had made it about five feet up the tree. He assured me that he was alright and that he would make the 15-20 feet mark. Twenty more minutes passed and he might have been eight feet when the panting started and he swore that he was going to fall out the tree. I encouraged him to keep going and he encouraged me to shut the #$^% up and he was as high as he was going. Finally got him settled down. The sun had just started to rise and I hadprepared my mind that it would be a gift if something happened to walk by the stand. Had a couple does walk by at 100 yds around 0830. He saw them first and made sure that I knew where they were. I was just glad he got to see some deer. About 0900 he said that he was ready to go. I said not so fast and he said that it was time to #%$^ go. Begged him for one more hour and he gave in. About 0920 spotted this guy from the distance had was confident he would come our way. Needless to say when he saw the deer he wasn't in such a hurry to climb down. The deer ended up coming by 20 yds from me and about 25 yds from my dad eight feet up a tree. The muzzy 125 hit the heart and we watched the deer expire at about 40 yds. I don't know who was more excited me or my dad. This was my first mature buck and his first time in the woods. I think that I was more excited that he wasin a tree next to me than I was being able to harvest this deer. Next part. Found taxidermist. Have it back in the spring. Dec 06 Army said your going to Hawaii in May. Deer not ready when movers packed the house. Taxidermist mailed to Hawaii for $225. Opened the box. Deer was fine. It's on the wall. The sad part is that I won't make it to the mainland this season. I wish you guys all the luck and keep the stories coming. PS>>> Never had a chance to get it scored. What might it go?
