pendulum sight

Anybody on this forum have a pendulum sight on their bow? If so, how does it compare to a fixed pin sight. Are they easier to use. I am clueless of the science behind them. Any insight into them would be great.

Thanks

RE: pendulum sight

There are alot of pendulum sights out there, I use to own the Keller, if you sight in from 15 feet up at a 20 yard target, you will be on from right under your stand out to 40 yds or more if you choose. With todays high speed bows there really isn't a need for a pendulum sight. Pendulums came out when a FAST bow was shooting 230 to 240 FPS. Todays bows far exceed this. If you are shooting a fairly new bow with speeds in excess of 250FPS, I would recommend staying with your regular sight.

I have them on a few bows, they work great fro tree stand hunting, period. No guesswork, worry about bending properly etc, sometimes I just cant bend properly because of a limb in the way or something else. Mine work great out to 25 yards on an older bow and out to 30 on my Guardian. I also have bows with regular sights for target practice and getting me in shape for the season.

Love to hear guys say that to me in person. I hate them, they suck, they dont work, I'm skeptical, which everyone should be. Thats when I say let ride over to my casa, or, bring your rig over and lets do some shooting. I have 2 stands set up, 20 and 25 feet up on my property. Most cant come close to bulls when I move my targets in and out from 5 to 30 yards, love it,great seeing the look on their faces. All I can say, is Ive had person after person try and prove me wrong, even tournament shooters, most dont, some do. Pendulums do work.

Don't know about all pendulums, I've been using the Predator IV from the start 7 years ago and it's about the only thing I haven't changed. It works and works well. I hunt a property that has 9 different stands, no two a like. I often use a climber to hunt out of as well. I garantee that this pendulum when set up properly is deadly at any yardage within 35 yards at any shooting height from0-30 feet high. The draw back is it takes some time and a 15 foot high stand to sight in from. Well worth the effort in my book.

I use the savage pendulum, that I modified slightly for my personal preference.
It works great for me and takes the guess work out of which pin I need to use during that moment of sheer panic
called buck fever

I bought a tru glo pendulum sight this year. I've always been terrible at judging yardage. It will do what it says. You sight it in at 20 yards and it will swing free and adjust the sight for you out to 35 yards with my setup. The thing that sold me was shooting a 3# biologic clover bag at 2 yards under my stand. I could repeatedly drill the deer pictured on the front of it no matter where I placed it. They work!

I shot a Keller for a couple years and had nothing but good experiences with it. The only thing that I don't like about pendulums is the amount of noise that they tend to give off. Sometimes they can be rather noisy, which might cause the deer to jump or duck the arrow.

This may sound like a really stupid question. I have a v drive pendulum sight on my bow. I've always wondered do you keep the yellow ring on the sight centered in your peep, or do you center the pin in your peep. I've never used the pendulum feature on this sight, but did shoot over two deer last year. If anyone can help me out, I would love to try it out. Just dont know the exact way to use the pendulum. Thanks in advance, from the pendulum newb.:)

You should have a way to release the pin so it will swing free as you tilt your bow. Once you sight it in on the ground as the instructions say, you should just have to let the pin swing free and point the bow at your target. I try to line my peep up with the circle of the sight and put the pin where I want it to hit. You shouldn't have to center the pin in the peep, your eye will nearly always automatically do that.

Thanks for the reply grasshopper. Kinda thought that way, now I'll just have to try it out off of my deck, and see what happens.

You keep the ring of the peep lined up with the yellow V drive sight ring, and put the sight pin on the spot you want to hit, what Grasshopper said. There is a blackthumb/finger screw on the topright side of the sight ring, screw it out to make the pendulum swing free, tighten up so its locked out for ground shotting.

Diesel...Which pendulum do you like??? I've been thinking about getting one for a few years, seems I'm one of those guys that shoots great on the ground, and up to 15 feet, when I get to 25 feet up in a tree, I shoot high...

They do work, however mine tended to overcompensate and shoot low, the sight would swing out oo far. I waqs able to remedy the situatuin with some tape. The other problem w/ the Tru-Glo that I had it seemed loose and would rattle a little on the shot making it noisy. I went back to a fixed pin sight.

Keller makes a real nice pendulum. I personally shoot the Trophy Ridge Mantis Guide Series with LED pin light. I chose that over the Keller just because it seems to have a more rigid mount and it has measured increment marks for adjustments butfor almost half the price the Keller is a great deal.Ive been bowhunting 26 years and just find it a littleeasier not to have to worry about guessing yardage, making sure you bend properly, etc when using regular sights. Sometimes you dont have time to use a rangefinder or just can make that much movement when theres a bunch of deer under you or dont want to risk it, or cant bend properly as your trying to lean one way or squat tomake sure you shoot under thatone limb right in your shooting path, so many variables that happen you just never know. If you mainly tree stand hunt then I think they are great.

Thanks, I'll try that, I shot over a doe last night, and I've got to correct my problem before going back again...I only tree stand hunt, go up about 25 feet and she was only about 17 yards away, I'm sure I'm not bending at the waist properly...Funny, shooting from the roof of my house, I'm good, up in a tree things happen...Good Luck

Ive got the new Summit Hot Dot pendulum sight. It works AWESOME. Its all electronic which is the only thing im worried about. Dont want that battery goin dead when I finally draw back on a monster. All you do is sight it in for 30 yards from the ground with a fixed pin (led). Switch it to pendulum and you are right on from 0-30yards from 10-30ft in the air. The great thing about it is that there is only one red dot and the rest of the sight is wide open. It allows you to see the deer and there arent any pins in the way. Its a great sight

I have been using a Keller sight for years. I love it, can Robinhood arrows to about 30 yards with it.
