Powerball Winner- Would you Fence?
So here is a good question! If you won a $80 million (Or More) powerball, would you go out and find an incredible hunting property somewhere (Anywhere- whatever your game) and build your dream home on it with your family to retire on and not fence it? You would automatically buy all the local trespassersand poachers that have been sneeking on the property for ages. You might even buy enemies right away. If you don't fence it you certainly would have to hire security right! Or should you reley on the local law. It's a lot to think about, but.......what are your thoughts? Everybody has a dream! How do you protect it without affending someone else?

RE: Powerball Winner- Would you Fence?
IF IF'S AND BUT WERE CANDY AND NUTS,EVERDAY WOULD BE CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!
|
RE: Powerball Winner- Would you Fence?
I'd buy enough land and hunt and manage the "core". Preferrably land that abutts other land that is off limits to others.
Then.....my friends and I could hunt the heck out of it! |
RE: Powerball Winner- Would you Fence?
Just remember your fencing out as much out asis.;)
|
RE: Powerball Winner- Would you Fence?
Drizzu213, I think you missed the question! It's not "IF NUTS AND CANDY" or "POWERBALL WISHES"!
It's if you truly can afford theRIGHT to make the decision on your own property of what will become of it, what would you do? If you own a 60' x 100' lot in the suburbs, should you turn the other cheek if the neighbors dog craps in your back yard because you don't have a fence? Should the public be able to park on your front lawn because your never made a curb. It's a lot deeper question then IF IF. |
RE: Powerball Winner- Would you Fence?
I'd be too busy traveling the world bowhunting to worry about a fence. I would buy a few nice hunting properties, none would be high fenced. That would really piss off my BIL, He owns a fence co. and a deer farm!
|
RE: Powerball Winner- Would you Fence?
No fence here, I would have enough money and time to patrol it my self and have a few people to keep a helping hand in keeping an "eye" out! I wouldn't have the biggest house money could buy I would have just as much property as money could buy....... Since were dreaming!

RE: Powerball Winner- Would you Fence?
wheb i was in english class we had a paper what would we do if we won the powerball
one thing i said and have thought about was my dream porperty i would go two differnt ways one i would have a few hundred acres high fence good gene deer to go like cattel primarly for meat i wont to only eat deer meat and chicken and fish that is one of my live goals then i would hunt a part like a 100 acres that for treespassers and puchers i wold fence yes i said i would hunt a 1000 acres fenced area i would not buy off the tresspassers i would if i did not fence it off build a coffe and dougnet shop and offer freee coffe and doughut to all local game wardens and cops also i would install a state of the art camerasystem around the place to see every inch of the property line and that would help you with the deer movement as well and do notforget the tons of food plots andif i had a fence it would be ten feetrazor wire because don't forget you have 80 mil and i would have millons in cars gun atv boat and cash when you have that much money your a big target for a lot of bad people |
RE: Powerball Winner- Would you Fence?
i would buy so much land that i wouldn't have to worry about fence. if i had 80 million i'd buy enough that in a lifetime of walking i could never even see all the boundary lines.there's always gonna be poachers and most of the big landowners that i know personally have pretty much come to terms with that.if they happen to catch the scum that's a bonus.

RE: Powerball Winner- Would you Fence?
I would but alot of land buy a few 200" deer and let them breed and hunt it. No fences! I would also go sprint car racing!!!
|
RE: Powerball Winner- Would you Fence?
I've acually thought about this myself and I don't know what I would do. I already know what property it would be though....about 2000 acres of prime whitetail, bear and turkey action. I used to hunt it, probably still could but I don't care but I tell you one thing. If I won the powerball, I would own it. I don't know what I would do after that. Part of me says fence it and live a long happy life there but the part of me that is against fencing just says hire all your best friends to hunt and patrol the hell out of it. That would be their well paying job with perks....just be my private "park" rangers...lol;)
|
RE: Powerball Winner- Would you Fence?
I would buy land in KY, IA, IL, and a few other states.
Like said above, I would buy enough that I could work the core of it. There is NO way I would fence any of it in. PERIOD!!! |
RE: Powerball Winner- Would you Fence?
Why buy your own , when you can afford to go wherever you want anyway . I'd go on trips all over the states , Europe and any other country your allowed to bowhunt..... ok and still havemy own land , but i would not fence it .:D

ORIGINAL: Bailsuk Why buy your own , when you can afford to go wherever you want anyway . I'd go on trips all over the states , Europe and any other country your allowed to bowhunt..... ok and still havemy own land , but i would not fence it .:D I get more reward out of a deer that I kill eating out of a food plot that i shed hours of sweat planting or had to walk two miles into public land to kill. For me, the kill is only part of it. Even if I did have that kind of money, I would still work my own land. I would have some hired help, no doubt, but I would still have my hands in it. |
RE: Powerball Winner- Would you Fence?
In thinking about this topic for a brief 4 minutes...on this end of it....I probably wouldn't. I'd buy monster tracts of land for sure. Probably in both IL and MO....my homestate.I'd probably buy afew huge breeder bucks too and let them do their thing.
AT THIS END OF IT...I probably wouldn't put up a high fence though. |
RE: Powerball Winner- Would you Fence?
I'd patrol it myself, and it would be in a state where I could shoot someone for being on my land. And I would shoot them and I wouldn't feel bad about it at all. Hell I'd take pictures as trophies before I called the cops!

RE: Powerball Winner- Would you Fence?
Boy I should really have started this as a poll! So far I think it reads:
3 Probably Fence 8 No Fence 4 Undecided |
RE: Powerball Winner- Would you Fence?
i would fence it,higher someone to manage the food plots, and book hunts to canada, texas, iowa, wisconsin every year
|
RE: Powerball Winner- Would you Fence?
I would most definitly buy me some land that I would build a house on and that would be managed for whitetail, ect.I would not fence, but I would have a good relationship with the local law enforcement agencies and I would have a mgr or my own security or both, although I would be very involved in the daily activities on my land.I would also have land in more than 1 state.I would be very tough on any and all treespasser prosecute to the fullest extent of the law.I would make it known that if youtresspass on my property you will be sorry.

Maybe a nude beach on the Mediterrainian [/q uote]oh well definitly fence that in. |
RE: Powerball Winner- Would you Fence?
I would start a program to help keep the sport thriving.from educating the youth to adults just getting into the sport , and as for the land i would do something the game commission should look into being that they charge enough for the license which is - take and fence it but make it a deer farmwith a habitat , such as foodplots and a pond or stream so that there healthy andwhen they reach the 3 antler or more on one side , age / they can release them into thegame lands or wild . i mean they do the same thing at fish hatcheries just on a smaller scale.
then i would supply conservitive hunter's andlogging companies with seedstoplant american chestnut trees /walnuttrees/ oak trees and such not to mention grape vines and berry bushes so that future generations will be able to seea hopefully larger healthier number of deer . why logging companies , because then they would be giving back from what they tookand possibly improve the habitat of thatarea . im not greedy thereis plenty of land to hunt as far as keeping people out .but if everyone took care or helped take care , ofjust the ground where they hunted or shared there would be good habitat all over which in all would increase deer population which would make it better for future hunters hunt safe and passthe sporton yall |
RE: Powerball Winner- Would you Fence?
I wouldnt fence it off. As a matter of fact I have a few parcels of land coming to me and my wife from her dad when he passes away, hopefully not anytime soon. 300 acres of prime hunting and ag land. One parcel of 40 acres may be leased to my wifes cousin, hes a good **** and a true sportsman. We plan on building a house in a few years on the main property on the hill. But no theres no way id ever fence it off.
|
RE: Powerball Winner- Would you Fence?
If you won that much money you could easily afford to have somebody patrol it for you to keep trespassers at a minimum, the fence would be unnecessary.
|
RE: Powerball Winner- Would you Fence?
Nah, no fence. I'd just invite my HNI friends to come and hunt and we'd out number the poachers.
|
RE: Powerball Winner- Would you Fence?
No fence for me either. What I would do instead I would go to all the farmers around here that lease to our local outfitter and ask them to sell me there timber ground and give them a lifetime lease on the grass for there cattle. I would buy every inch of the ground she leases and leave her with the 400 acres that she owns. Then just maybe she would give up her crooked practice that she runs around here and move on to somewhere else. Nope there is no loveloss between the local hunters and this woman just alot of regret for befriending her and letting her screw the local bowhunters into submission. I would also give permission to almost everyone that asked to hunt it with the stipulation that if they are going to hunt it they would have to bring a kid with them so that we can pass the love of hunting down to the next generation. Of course I would get first dibs on which areas I would get to hunt along with Antler Eater. And if I was to catch this chick on any of my ground I would love that call to 911 to get the game warden out there to arrest this beotch because he doesn't care for her either. I will tell you guys the reason for mydislike for her if you want me too but I would have to start my own thread because it would be a long story.

RE: Powerball Winner- Would you Fence?
I'd pull a Rambo! First I'd bait the whole area drawing in all the game. Then I'd set up land mines and claymores all around the perimiter. I might be so kind as to put up one or two "Posted" signs so IF anyone got killed I'd be able to say with a straight face "It was posted!"
Just kidding no fences for me. |

RE: Powerball Winner- Would you Fence?
You better believe I would buy a giant piece of land, but no chance in hell I would fence it. With the fence, you keep out just as much as you keep in. If I had a piece of land of that size, say 1000 acres, pretty tough for poachers to do any real damage. I may be way off here, but I don't see poachers as an army of people who descend upon newly purchased land and rape and pillage until all the game is gone. My experience has been isolated incidents. No doubt that poachers have killed plenty of deer, but it is something that I really don't stay up worrying about. I have faith in the local law and also I have faith in my ability to monitor my property in such a way that I know where activity occurs that is not of my doing. With 1 acre or 1000 acres, someone is going to be pissed that YOU have it and THEY don't.

RE: Powerball Winner- Would you Fence?
Heck I'd Buy Maryland and post the borders! All the big bucks are in Maryland! They migrate up from N.C.
|
RE: Powerball Winner- Would you Fence?
I wouldn't fence it... first off, I'd buy the land in an area that's difficult to get to... maybe only by helicopter or something... the only people that would even consider poaching that land would be worthy hunters to begin with... of course i'd post it anyway and I'd patrol it with my quad/horses... I'd try to get land bordering some kind of national park and try to pick up somewhere along the lines of 2000+ acres... might even go as far as having a hunting/fishing lodge on the property (high end/big dollar stuff) somewhere... having an extremely exclusive lodge would probably discourage poachers as well... as for my hunting... who knows, i'd buy a few smaller plots in various areas, like a couple hundred here and there depending on what I was wanting to hunt... but we're talkin about the dream here... reality says it would take to much time for me to manage and worry about... I'd probably just buy a home somewhere with 100+ acres and lease land in areas I wanted to hunt on a season by season basis...

RE: Powerball Winner- Would you Fence?
Florida is where all the big deer are migrating.( I have this on good authority) So I would buy land there. No warty northern deer for me!
RESPECT |
RE: Powerball Winner- Would you Fence?
I'd hope that nobody's opinions on "high fence" would change simply because they had the resources to own property all of a sudden. There's a word for that.
BTW, you lottery winners aren't thinking big enough. A ranch in British Columbia with a lot more options than just plain ol whitetails...that's what I'm talking about ;) |
RE: Powerball Winner- Would you Fence?
It would all decide on what I wanted to manage. I'm againts high fencing anything but around then 15-30 acres around the house. After that I think regular cattle fence would be all I would want......unless I decided to create about a 10,000 acre african game management area. Then of course I would have to do the high fences.
But all in all, I'm against high fences as you end up with captive genes that can be just as bad as good, if a disease comes through, and domestic herds are responsible for all the CWD in this area. |
RE: Powerball Winner- Would you Fence?
I would buy the biggest piece of land I could afford. At least 2000 acres or more to say 5000. I would not do the fence. Since no matter how big it is any trophy that comes out would be considered a pen raised deer to others. I would invest in large rack deer with good genetics and have them released on my land. And like GMATT said I would invest in a core area, then let others patrol and hunt the out skirts for me.
