RE: hope it cools back down
I don't know how you guys down south do it. I would quit hunting if I had to hunt in that heat.
Anything over 65 and I don't even head out. If the bugs are flying, forget it. I'll take 15 degrees any day over heat. You can always put more clothes on when it's cold. What do you do if you hit one on a 95 degree day? No thanks. You guys are nuts! ;) |
RE: hope it cools back down
I could never hunt in the heat like that day after day! I could, but wouldn't like it! I like it when the temp is in the teens or lower! The colder the better! I don't know how you guys do it down there, probably because you have no choice! I guess we have it pretty good here in Wisconsin, almost 3.5 months of bowhunting and it just keeps getting colder and colder!!!!!!!!!:)

RE: hope it cools back down
I can accept the early season heat - I HATE it, but I'll put up with temps to about the mid 80's.
What I cannot accept is nearly the same temps in late Oct and early November. We've had four straight years of temps around 80 right as the best part of the year arrives. It actually infuriates me. |
RE: hope it cools back down
Tomorrow, the high in Tennessee will be around 90 degrees.[>:]

RE: hope it cools back down
I don't like the heat, but I am still out there & still seeing deer.
Go slow, dress light, don't worry about getting there too early(evening hunts) and go to easily accessable spots. I've also been ground hunting to save the effort of climbing. one break of dumb luck each of the past 2 nights and I'd have had quality shots at deer. But they ended up being a couple of almosts. |
RE: hope it cools back down
well i just got in. went out around...uhhh 4-430ish.
i forgot that they started logging back there and went to setup towards the area i seen the deer come through last weekend when i hunted there. get to where i spotted the deer and watched it feed up the hill and sure enough...a logging road:( pretty grown up, littered with nuts...easy walkin..no wondered they are using them. rumor was walmart was coming....but i dont know...been over a year and all thats been done was them logging roads...i dont know. so this evening i sat 10yds back off that logging road... pouring sweat before i even got there...dressed as light as possible...and even ditched my whole backpack to conserve weight...but a 20lb climber is still enough weight on its own...i was sneakin along and still sweating. didnt see nothin but squirrels. got eaten alive by misquitos and poured more sweat on the way out than on the way in:eek: but, it was an enjoyable evening hunt after work. got to watch a big ole fox squirrel for a long while with the binocs...man are they funny to watch. this one had ADD. just randomly running around the tree...then at one point he completely laid down on the branch and seconds later he sprung up and was scratching and knawing at himself...i should brought flea drops for him;) and...i can sleep well tonite...i know what i woulda missed out on if i didnt go hunting:D day in a treestand beats the pants off of anything else.... i cant compete with the logging roads. they made the place even THICKER than it already was..and gave deer places to roam...couldnt figure out why my point wasnt so hot last week...id eat off the logging road too instead of busting brush to get to the point lol...ohhhh well...back at it Friday evening if i have time...if not, Saturday is the REAL opener...and i can hunt my REAL spots... |
