hope it cools back down
here i am...1615 and its during a special early doe season and im not on stand....
just really dont feel like sweatin my arse off and risking wasting a deer. even with the low of 60 something...still a race against time...tomarrow is more of the same. highly doubt i head out tomarrow either. probably hit it up one last time Friday evening next week IF it cools down....Saturday starts our REAL bow season...im pumped. hopefully it cools down though i dont know how you southern boys do it....between the heat, bugs and nasty woods, i dont know how yall do it...85 is probably down right chilly for some of you guys....not me....i aint even venturing out! lol. heading to the bow shop...local guy that has a tiny shop in his basement....hopefully he can refletch some arrows fer me:) i cant help i shot them off with broadheads....just havent had the time as of yet....and thats 5 or 6 more arrows i could be shootin...i got a couple that the inserts need realigned on and wobble bad...so those 5 are in need now...hopefully he can take care of that and tie me on a new loop in the same place as my current one. i muffed up the melting of the ends and nicked the loop...last piece of material i had lol....hope he aint busy:eek: |
RE: hope it cools back down
man I'd be happy to see 85. Its about 95 here.

RE: hope it cools back down
I will tell you what, it was 64 degreeson my way to work and I was chilly(not to bad)
If it is under 80 degrees at 6:30 AM on opening morning then it is going to be a nice day. We do put up with a lot more heat than you northern boys, but I still don't know how ya'll sit outside when it is 10 below zero. We are crazy for the heat, ya'll are crazy for the cold. |
RE: hope it cools back down
its alot better when its cold because you can always put more close on,when its so damn hot it sucks sweatin all the time
|
RE: hope it cools back down
Suppose to be 91ยบ tomorow.
I figure I can still hunt in the morning before it gets too dam hot, I know where to get ice. |
RE: hope it cools back down

RE: hope it cools back down
I've hunted early Oct in the low 90's. It's my opinion your wasting days afield. Just like hunting in the rain you just have to be very selective on your shots which one should be anyway right?
|
RE: hope it cools back down
i wish all i had to complain about was temperature. there's a friggin hurricane sittin over my farm right now
|
RE: hope it cools back down
lol...i will take 10 degrees over 85 any day.
Rob...your 100% correct...it WAS a wasted day...i COULD have been out there...SHOULD have probably been sittin on the creek crossing....but, before the post, i was still trying to broadhead tune the bow...i got them shooting where i want but cant bring the fieldpoints back where they should be...tried it all..started from scratch 3x now..somethins astray and i cant figure it out...driving me nuts. my broadheads fly like darts and im happy with the flight...but its always nice to have them hit with the fieldpoints. not this year i guess... and im going into work in the morning...knew that ahead of time...which was another factor..if i DID hit one, and had a long night ahead of me, id be forced to let the crew down by not going in or by going in and not being 110% there..see what time i get off tomarrow...the creek crossing will be the place to be...or the oak point above the creek crossing...or closer to the thicket hmmmmm lol..but im hard to hold down when i have time...even if its only 2 hours i might venture out tomarrow....cant kill em from the couch eh?? you sure??? |
RE: hope it cools back down
ORIGINAL: txjourneyman man I'd be happy to see 85. Its about 95 here. |
RE: hope it cools back down
I don't know how you guys down south do it. I would quit hunting if I had to hunt in that heat.
Anything over 65 and I don't even head out. If the bugs are flying, forget it. I'll take 15 degrees any day over heat. You can always put more clothes on when it's cold. What do you do if you hit one on a 95 degree day? No thanks. You guys are nuts! ;) |
RE: hope it cools back down
I could never hunt in the heat like that day after day! I could, but wouldn't like it! I like it when the temp is in the teens or lower! The colder the better! I don't know how you guys do it down there, probably because you have no choice! I guess we have it pretty good here in Wisconsin, almost 3.5 months of bowhunting and it just keeps getting colder and colder!!!!!!!!!:)

RE: hope it cools back down
I can accept the early season heat - I HATE it, but I'll put up with temps to about the mid 80's.
What I cannot accept is nearly the same temps in late Oct and early November. We've had four straight years of temps around 80 right as the best part of the year arrives. It actually infuriates me. |
RE: hope it cools back down
Tomorrow, the high in Tennessee will be around 90 degrees.[>:]

RE: hope it cools back down

RE: hope it cools back down
I don't like the heat, but I am still out there & still seeing deer.
Go slow, dress light, don't worry about getting there too early(evening hunts) and go to easily accessable spots. I've also been ground hunting to save the effort of climbing. one break of dumb luck each of the past 2 nights and I'd have had quality shots at deer. But they ended up being a couple of almosts. |
RE: hope it cools back down
well i just got in. went out around...uhhh 4-430ish.
i forgot that they started logging back there and went to setup towards the area i seen the deer come through last weekend when i hunted there. get to where i spotted the deer and watched it feed up the hill and sure enough...a logging road:( pretty grown up, littered with nuts...easy walkin..no wondered they are using them. rumor was walmart was coming....but i dont know...been over a year and all thats been done was them logging roads...i dont know. so this evening i sat 10yds back off that logging road... pouring sweat before i even got there...dressed as light as possible...and even ditched my whole backpack to conserve weight...but a 20lb climber is still enough weight on its own...i was sneakin along and still sweating. didnt see nothin but squirrels. got eaten alive by misquitos and poured more sweat on the way out than on the way in:eek: but, it was an enjoyable evening hunt after work. got to watch a big ole fox squirrel for a long while with the binocs...man are they funny to watch. this one had ADD. just randomly running around the tree...then at one point he completely laid down on the branch and seconds later he sprung up and was scratching and knawing at himself...i should brought flea drops for him;) and...i can sleep well tonite...i know what i woulda missed out on if i didnt go hunting:D day in a treestand beats the pants off of anything else.... i cant compete with the logging roads. they made the place even THICKER than it already was..and gave deer places to roam...couldnt figure out why my point wasnt so hot last week...id eat off the logging road too instead of busting brush to get to the point lol...ohhhh well...back at it Friday evening if i have time...if not, Saturday is the REAL opener...and i can hunt my REAL spots... |
